Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

I did the same! I had a bunch of WOD stuff that was just collecting dust, and needed to clear out some space so I sold it to friends-of-friends who were still active RPGers. It was a cool RPG setting and concept, but given how busy things are for me, I pared down the collection to a couple of...

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

My friends and I played quite a lot of RPGs back in the halcyon old days with "free time." We started off with WHFRP first edition, and took a brief detour into AD&D 2nd edition. Only one guy in our gaming group liked it, and the rest of us all thought it was pretty mediocre (myself included -...

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

My thoughts exactly. It will always be interesting to see new Necromunda models, but the GW prices are really getting ridiculous. I'm happy to proxy, and put truth to the old adage that "every model is a Necromunda model."

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

Moving to the Sump to respond to https://yaktribe.games/community/threads/new-models-incoming.8526/post-340956 I'd be more excited if the rumor had been that GW was finally getting around to making plastic juve kits for all the gangs. The thought of "new GW rules" after the hot mess that was...

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

This is so true (and truly silly)! Not having a consistenly available starter game has the knock-on effect of preventing organic growth from word-of-mouth/grassroots gaming. For example, if all those decades ago my friend's older brothers weren't playing Space Hulk, a group of 5-6 of us would...

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

I don't understand why GW doesn't keep Space Hulk constantly in print. It has a proven record of being the "gateway game" to other, more extensive and complicated GW games. Several of my friends and I all made the move from RPGs to wargames precisely because of Space Hulk - and we were all about...

    Scratch building terrain supplies

When I first got into scratch building terrain, I experimented a bit with granny grating. There was a time when many of the terrain-building Youtubers were using the stuff, and I think that convinced me to give it a try. Like @ClockworkOrange mentioned, it was very hard to work with because it...

    Scratch building terrain supplies

@MusingWarboss I found your post very helpful and I also found the follow-up post with the measurements helpful. I, for one, often find it difficult to scratch build good looking railings. Waist-high chain link fence could be a good option, if it isn't too overpriced (sometimes model rail...

Feeding the Tribe (Gardening thread - Off Topic)

My kids and I got 5 tomato plants in the ground earlier this week, and we have been fertilizing our blueberry and blackberry hedges. Our plum tree also just finished its spring bloom, and it is looking like a very strong crop this year! I already braced a couple of the branches. We're also...

    New models incoming

As a young man, I wouldn't have paid a kit like this any notice at all. As a ... er... more "seasoned" hobbyist, I'm really looking forward to a whole bunch of farm animal miniatures. At the risk of opening myself up to off-color jokes, I'm way more excited by the announcement of 28mm farm...

    What's on your mind?

Did the old Brat gang from Confrontation ever get officially added to N95? I know Brats weren't in the N95 rules or Outlanders, but not sure if they were in one of the old Necromunda or Gang War magazines. They were at least comedic in concept. I never played them (or against them) so can't...

Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

I recently saw the Red Corsair Raiders models and they gave me inspiration for some kitbashing. I looked up their prices, and... yikes. I know griping about GW prices is getting a bit threadbare at this point, but there are only 5 models in this kit for $65 (admittedly a bit cheaper at $55...

ORB A Growing Populace (New Minis WIP)

That's a lot of assembly! You're a man on a mission with these - good job!

    Necromunda Captain's Log

They'll all be able to focus on the task at hand... no pesky distractions like "the outside" or "natural light"! Maybe it'll help with immersion into the hive setting?

ORB Do you have to declare your overwatch shots immediately, or can you wait until the end of the movement phase?

Doesn't the Overwatch skill require that the interruption of the enemy model's action occur "as soon as it is declared" (or some other similar wording)? I think one has to declare that Overwatch is being used to interrupt an activation immediately once a visible model declares its activation...

    What's on your mind?

This is an interesting announcement from Wargames Atlantic about how they're not going to do pre-orders any longer. I like that they're willing to do things differently, and are trying to combat some of the worse trends in our hobby (and also maybe reign in excessive consumerism ever so...

Necromunda GW's late 1990s scratchbuilt Necromunda terrain

As @Tiny mentioned, nostalgia definitely plays a part. Besides that, however, the old N95 terrain hit a sweet spot in terms of (1) fast to get on the table, (2) easy to store, and (3) looks decent. I looked to the original terrain for inspiration when building my own terrain from scratch (and...

Necromunda GW's late 1990s scratchbuilt Necromunda terrain

I still use cereal box cardboard for stuff like trim, but for actual walkways using sheet styrene is really the way to go... It even comes in white like the stuff they show in the old photo! Might as well make it more sturdy than cereal box cardboard if you go through the effort to recreate it!

Talent in a Bottle - a (brief) history of “slop it in brown liquid”

I think a dark green wash like that would be excellent on terrain, but not so useful for dipping full figures. I'm not a fan of the dip method anyway; never comes out right when I've tried it. Plus it's easy enough to just glaze some color into the recesses. For terrain though, a dark green...

This one is quite old and not updated, but I keep going back to it for inspiration. A classic for scratch building: http://ironhands.com/necro.htm
