Six thousand years?! And other GoMo fluff questions

Wait, wait, wait ... I just had a really crazy idea about that whole 'Necrons caused the hulk to crash' thing. What I'm about to say is much more speculative than the other stuff I mentioned. Moreover, it doesn't fit with any official background after the 3rd ed Necron Codex. But, like I said...

Six thousand years?! And other GoMo fluff questions

Good point. The survey report in the back of Da Uvver Book says that the humans did find evidence of many other ... somethings ... that could be emitters, or power generators, or spaceship detectors, or some other thing: "Contrary to initial estimates, the energy scale appears to be centred on...

Six thousand years?! And other GoMo fluff questions

It's not inconceivable that the timeline is inconsistent, as GW writers often had trouble remembering how long ago the Eldar Fall happened too ... but let me give it a go. *blows dust off ancient tomes* According to the 3rd ed 40K Necron Codex, p11, the proper 'first contact' with the Necrons...

Six thousand years?! And other GoMo fluff questions

It's 'Eter ... vigila ...' (the spaceship's name). Here's one I managed to dig up the other night: I saw a fascinating comment on Penny Arcade, circa 2007, suggesting that the ancestors of the Diggas may have inadvertently a) woken up the Necrons to bring them into 40K (because this was their...

Six thousand years?! And other GoMo fluff questions

G'day all, I'm reading through the background for Gorkamorka properly for the first time in years, and loving it ... but there are a few things bothering me. I'm sure this has all been discussed and rehashed endlessly over the years, but I have a few wild speculations / ideas for fluff...

    Basing big metal ships?

Oh believe me, I know the pain of trying to replace the flight stands on delicate Eldar escorts. (Mind you, I was using 3mm diameter brass rod, which is even wider than a GW stand.) I had to cut the underbelly pieces of the Aconites away and drill into the main hull: I also managed to...

Where to find rules for BFG?

I don't have it handy, but if anyone has the 'Battlefleet Gothic 1.5' document from around 2006, that would be a worthwhile inclusion. It lists the major changes made after the original printing of the rulebook (e.g. nova cannons are no longer guess range weapons, and you can't have more...

    BFG or BFGR?

We use standard BFG rules, with Armada and the 2010 FAQ supplement. As far as lists go, personally I use the rulebook and Armada fleet lists. I don't usually bother with the 2010 Compendium apart from the Space Marine list. Haven't tried BFG:R. I have no real issues with the standard...

    Basing big metal ships?

I use a method similar to timdp, with 1/8" (3.18mm) brass rod stands. Even a direct meteorite strike won't shift 'em. Only difference is that I superglue the brass rod into the ships rather than magnetising them. I've found that it's actually not too hard to store BFG ships with their flight...

    ORB Novels being reprinted!

Oops, got a reply notification for this but it slipped my mind. :cautious: Haha, that was great. Haven't seen Red vs Blue in years. I would call that scene comic though, not scary. But your point applies to comedy as well. Implying something can be funnier than showing it. (Random example...

    ORB Novels being reprinted!

Hmm. Very interesting question that kept my brain occupied during a long bus trip, so thank you. (y) Normally I would say the key question is whether the violence/horror is included to achieve a particular artistic or storytelling effect, or whether it's just there as gratuitous indulgence...

    ORB Novels being reprinted!

I agree it makes sense for her character. Just could have done with a gore discretion shot, I thought. (Donna revs chainsword, guy starts screaming, cut to black. Or something.) Of course, that's not exactly how Black Library rolls. People would have complained.

    Mandatory post-your-fleet thread!

Did someone say BFG fleet pics? Apologies for the dodgy lighting in some of these... Battlefleet Pleonexia (based on the Eastern Fringe) Flickr album Theme tune: Big Fire Appears (Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still) (I have a few more ships than this but can't find all the photos...

    ORB Novels being reprinted!

Throwing in my two creds... I've only read a few of the Necromunda novels, and it's been years since I revisited them, but here's what I thought: Status: Deadzone is a mix of good and bad, but there's enough worthwhile stuff in it to make it worth a look. It's also of historical interest, as I...

    Necromunda packaging guide?

Thanks Malo and Clockwork for the info (y) It occurred to me yesterday that unopened blister packs of Pit Slave Chiefs and Technos might be worth looking up on eBay. I'm pretty sure the Chiefs and Technos weren't released until the full Pit Slave Gang rules were presented in White Dwarf, around...

    Necromunda packaging guide?

I expect that's the lead poisoning :p Back in the chem pit! In all seriousness, I'm a bit wary of minis made of soft smooshable lead in a game that involves placing them a) on their backs, b) on their fronts and c) precariously on high ledges. Paint also seems to go sticky and cling to...

    Necromunda packaging guide?

Just answered that last question of mine--spotted a few gang boxes on eBay and it seems each gang had a different colour scheme for its title. I've learned something today :)

    Necromunda packaging guide?

A few further thoughts: I'm pretty sure that the fine print on the back of the packaging always carried a health warning if the minis were lead ('they should not be chewed or swallowed'). Once white metal came in, the warning just referred to 'essential pointed components' and said 'they are...

[ORB] Parry as a skill only - not on weapons?

That's fair enough, and I reckon a lot of people would agree with you. I ran my suggestion by an old-timey Necro player today and got the same response (he favoured a WS threshold before you could parry). I have a feeling most people prefer to either add rules/options or tweak them rather than...

    Necromunda packaging guide?

G'day all, Just wondering if there's a guide somewhere to the different packaging of official GW Necromunda releases over the years. What did the blister packs, gang boxes and so on look like in 1995, 1998, the 2000s, etc? I know the Underhive blisters had a distinctive red/black style (got...
