I’ve been playing 2nd Ed 40K pretty much exclusively for about a year and I can safely say it’s aged like a fine wine HOWEVER I am fortunate that my pals and I are only interested in fun games and will purposefully avoid anything that makes games too shite for either party… I would never play...
I’ve never, ever needed this function until yesterday, hilariously.
My pal donated me a basilisk that was missing a few bits and had no instructions, and I couldn’t quite work out how it was supposed to go together. A rear view would have been perfect but alas, t’was not to be. I ended up...
Yep random draw for order dice creates a random activation order… overall I prefer it as you have to react on the fly all the time and can’t rely on things going your way.
My pals and I have used it for everything, bolt action, warlords of erehwon, our 40K homebrew, necro 95, mordheim… we...
I’m going to take the plunge into some BFG in the new year and am looking to pick a starting fleet. My favourite race are the Orks so I’m naturally tempted to go all in those… however, playing them in 2nd Ed 40k and 8th Ed WHFB is leaving me cautious; I really can’t handle another system with...
I can’t agree. Mordheim has the exact same stat line as necro and therefore the exact same ‘nobs’ to twiddle with. Maybe the experience with 2nd Ed helps me out here, because I’ve played many games that go beyond human on human combat. In those days the fantasy races were pretty much transposed...
Are you sure you’re remembering 2nd Ed melee correctly ntw? You still have to roll to wound in it as well, the difference in combat score dictates how many hits are then made at S value… the 2 handed weapon can indeed make a big difference in combat, especially against armoured opponents.
I...
I couldn’t stand mordheim for the exact reason you mentioned; for a game built around sword fights close combat was lousy. Not just the tickle contests it devolved into, but the lame ‘stand here patiently while I do my attacks and if you survive have a slap back’ system. It was one of the many...
I’ll give the game a look but have very little trust that it will be any good. I am worried that it will mean I can’t get games of 8th anymore as well, the new shiny always has a pull on people.
Getting access to old models is great but I have a feeling I will balk when I see the price, same...
Why do they keep doing it then? I would posit it’s because it leads to where they can charge £65 for a single plastic man. The ‘supply issue’ excuse only holds so much water.
Yep terrain is my favourite way to hobby as well.
My table for tonight’s Necro game is a nice mix of scratch build, MDF, and fancy GW stuff, the all scratch a certain itch (although I do find GW terrain to be very pretty but not very interesting to game with, I suppose it suits the trimmed...
I have this, it’s a great product that goes into great detail with every aspect. It’s not really anything you can’t find online but compiles it all in one place and is on papyrus for what my Luddite brain can reed off of… I just cannot absorb info from a screen for some reason.
I certainly did enjoy it. I still thumb through my ‘how to make wargames terrain’ book of the period.
I really want to spend some time recreating some of the classic white dwarf terrain from back then. Anyone got a good base for the old ruined chapel terrain?
The game is essentially subscription based now, so they might as well rip the plaster off and do it. It’s not like they can batter the fans enough to drive them away!
Those made to order prices are insultingly bad. Surely no one will do it?*
*I do have a pal who did but as a worker for the...
The Battlebible is your friend here. Everything you need in one place. The cards for wargear and datafaxes are handy but by no means necessary. The only thing you’d have to get really is the Psychic cards if you wanted to add the Dark Millennium rules.
