As I am just starting into BFG, I am looking round at all of the different miniatures manufacturers so thought I would collate my findings in one place.

If you have any sources for minis, post your links and pics of alternative BFG miniatures below. I will attempt to keep this post updated with the collected links.

Try to keep this thread to actual miniatures, not kitbashes. That will be for another thread.

Vanguard Miniatures - Great Imperial looking ships across 2 different ranges. Also a few escorts and some support ships.

Scourge Scenics have a bunch of ships for practically every Battlefleet Gothic fleet imaginable.

Firestorm Armada (Spartan Games, now Warcradle Studio). - Some really nice looking ships. While most don't really fit the "Gothic" look, some will fit nicely as xenos ships.

Ad-mech maybe?

A note on the Vanguard ones - The Heavy Frigate from the Gothic Ships range is more like the size of a Dauntless class light cruiser of BFG rather than a full size cruiser/battlecruiser.

The Helian Dreadnought from the Helios set is a good match size wise to a standard BFG cruiser, but it is noticeably longer - halfway between a battleship and a cruiser. I'm tempted to get one as a Grand Cruiser.

The Novan Fleet Escorts are an excellent analogue for Cobra class destroyers.

The Novan Heavy Frigates are a sort of in-between of a Cobra and a Dauntless... I got two and I think I'll use them as Swords/Firestorms/Falchions.

Cybershadow support vessels/oilers are perfect for convoys, transports, objectives etc.

Vanguard flight bases are 32mm diameter compared to the 30mm BFG ones. 1mm radius increase doesn't matter to me but it might to someone.

The Panthera Heavy Frigate (about 50mm long) is indeed a bit chunky, still smaller than a Dauntless (about 75mm long) though.

Sadly enough I don't have a pic of the Vanguard ships next to the BFG models, but this is the next best thing:

In case anyone is curious about the size of a Vanguard Helian Dreadnought to a BFG Cruiser/Battleship:

Smack bang in the middle, size wise - perfect for a Grand Cruiser!

Heyho

I'm just starting getting some BFG stuff (rules in German for my friends, tokens, dice and some original cruisers quite cheap) and also searched a lot for alternative miniatures for some ships. One source I already had was the Forbidden Stars game from Fantasy Flight games which comes with some nice ships for SM, Chaos, Eldar and Orks. They are smaller then their bfg cousins, but with 3,0 - 5,5 cm they are well fitting for escorts at least. Sadly I already glued the bases which came with the game, but I think some 30mm bases glued below them will do the job ^^ .. Just google for pictures to get a look. I'm not at home atm so I cant make photos now and give them to you.

For the Imperium I also discovered the Vanguard Miniatures ones. Thx for the comparison photo "Stoof". Mine are on the way so I know I will need some 60mm bases for the bigger ones if they arrive ^^

For getting some alternatives for other factions I looked arround a lot but only found two quite fitting ones for SM and one for Chaos at Ground Zero Games' Full Thrust range ...

For the SM Battlebarge I thought to use the Neu Salzburg class Heavy by the Neu Swabian League ...

https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/full-thrust-starships/neu-swabian-league-nsl-/ft-534.html )

... just cutting the front fin, or the Erzherzog Ferdinand Max class Superdreadnought ...

https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/full-thrust-starships/neu-swabian-league-nsl-/ft-532.html

... doing the same ..

For the Chaos I think the Scandinavian Federation's Valhalla Class Superdreadnought will be a nearly perfect Planet killer ^^ ...

For some Tau, Eldar or Necrons I whould think about Minis from Studio Bergstrom, even if they are not as perfect fitting ....

Tau: https://studiobergstrom.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=33
... or: https://studiobergstrom.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=34

Necrons: https://studiobergstrom.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59
.... or: https://studiobergstrom.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=39_42

Eldar: https://studiobergstrom.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=64_89

...

If I have my first models set up I will give you some photos, but be patient, cuz my rpg groups and work life is quite demanding ^^

Has anyone got any experience with the tiny Vanguard ordnance marker ships (fighters, bombers etc)? What kind of size are they and suchlike. I'm drawing a blank trying to find how well they go with BFG ships and was thinking about enfancying my Imperial ordnance markers.

Not yet, although my Vanguard ships arrived this morning and I am mighty impressed. Will probably grab some of their ordnance in a few weeks.

@Malika any plans for any Chaos fighters / bombers for the range? I notice you've made some Epic scale ones recently. Would be very happy if they transitioned to BFG scale.

EDIT: My Vanguard ships arrived and I did a thing.

@Stoof - The Javelin Fighters are about 9mm long. The Sagaris Bombers (variant a and b) are about 11.5mm long. The various types of torpedoes are 10mm long. The Arcus Breaching Pods are between 7.5mm and 8mm long, depending on whether they're opened or closed. The orbital mines have a diameter of about 7.5mm.

@Tiny - Really love that conversion, kinda curious to see what else you'll come up with. As for Tainted ordnance, there currently aren't plans yet to make BFG scaled versions of these two. I feel that the space fighters and bombers would be a bit different. I only noticed that Vanguard Miniatures are a bit reluctant to produce new ordnance models since they aren't guaranteed big sellers.

In the meantime, here's a teaser:
