Anime Corner

This is a first for me…. All the summer anime have ended and none of the fall ones have started yet! All the ones I’ve seen announces start next week.

Well F**k and P**s - Angel Cop is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. 🤣

Ah, I haven’t seen that since the late 90s when a guy at college leant me his Manga UK VHS. From what remember it has… quite the odd dub. And if you’ve seen it you’ll get that opening line of mine!!

They also have Gunbuster, Mo no no ke the series and my personal favourite, Cyber City OEDO 808.

Talking of which, I got the Discotek Blu-Ray version (via AlltheAnime) of CCOEDO808 back in 2021. I was stoked to have a high quality digital version of my all time favourite cyberpunk anime (one of the first I saw back in 1994).

But that excitement evaporated into mild disappointment upon viewing. It seems they had upscaled a DVD transfer and in doing so also mangled darker areas so that there was huge artifacting errors. Many complained on Twitter but we were told “that’s the best we can get it”.

Well, the packaging was nice plus it came with a CD of the UK soundtrack (which ironically I actually owned since 1995 - I know, I’m a Nerd).

Well!! It turns out they discovered an actual film copy of the series and have taken a high-quality transfer of it and cleaned it up to produce a very clean, crisp and more importantly error free transfer.

So naturally those of us who brought the limited edition box set two years back get a disc upgrade right!!! 😄 Right???? 😅 Because of the messed up transfer??? 😕

Do we F**k.

We have to buy the remastered Blu-Ray again. 😡

However that new clean remaster is the one on Crunchyroll.

*sigh*

Looks like I’ll get the new Remastered Blu-Ray eventually for my collection but to slightly mis-quote one of the fruity lines of Manga UKs dub: “[its] a real f**king p*sser”.

It's pretty nice, not that I regret buying the new re-releases of stuff like Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos...

Just watched this:
Was wondering how many of them yaks had seen, or would you replace/change the order of them?

I’m currently under the impression that this is the largest number of releases I’ve ever seen in a single season. There must be at least 50. Around ten of which are “next season” seasons, with only a couple being “second half of the long season”….

I may just have to give up….

So, there are 32 new series/seasons on Crunchyroll alone that I’ve picked up to try out. I’ve already dropped two (34) and there are some I didn’t even think to try out. That’s nearly 40 new releases on Crunchyroll alone. Plus 5 on HiDive, and I saw that Netflix and Hulu also have new seasons that aren’t being carried by another service.

Holy Crap.

Am I wrong to get excited about the new Netflix Gundam? That trailer actually looked like a war movie and while you do get that sort of thing in Gundam, it isn't *that* gritty. Even IBO is brightly lit and colored most of the time.

I haven’t seen a trailer for that yet. I’ve only caught a couple of Gundam series, and haven’t been too thrilled with their “Gundams eat their pilots” sub-plots. iBO has been my favorite one so far.

Seen a fair few (I guess promo) posts from a few Japanese idols about a new anime called “Radger in the Attic”, seems like they all went en masse to a viewing and got merchandise.

From what I can gather it’s about a girl who has an imaginary friend. Seems to be made by some ex-Ghibli talent.

Anyone heard anything about it??

Its made by Studio Ponoc - I wonder if it’ll come to the western distributors??

I’m also assuming that’s the correct title - using the translate function under Instagram posts is often a gamble.

It could easily be Rodger…

Though “Rodger in the Attic” to British ears could conjure up a completely different type of movie.

According to Japan Posts English its “Radger in the Attic” but also “The Attic Rajah” with the magical friend being named Rajah. Apparently the studio folded after the movie was made? The article I saw was about a documentary being made about the studio’s collapse.

Edit: the article says the movie is coming to Hulu.

Didn't Madhouse follow a similar trajectory? (Btw, everyone should watch Redline if they can, it's absolutely gorgeous.)

“Hi-Dive has made the bold decision to run Gushing Over Magical Girls uncensored.”

Watched the first episode. Yup. That’s uncensored. I’m betting it’ll end up like Interspecies Reviewers.

Explanation: I was sent some clips from a German dub that was very well done from a technical standpoint, to the point of feeling "official", but the voice actors were so bad it seemed intentional.

Prodded the person who sent them to me and did some digging, turns out there's a fan parody of it where these clips are from. But I would have been ready to believe there was an officially licensed version that was simply a bit harder to get, like an age-verification on a streaming service, something along those lines.
