Any ideas for a smuggler shore party?

I want to include a smuggler shore party in my gang, but I'm not quite sure what to use for Void Born Scum. I can't actually tell what they are, most people seem to use ogryn or similarly big dudes, but I've seen a few that use regular sized humans as well.


I really like the look of two of the newly released Slave Ogryn, but I don't really want to pay $80 for the two miniatures I need, so I'm hoping someone might have some suggestions or let me know what you guys used for your scum.

I plan to use the female Rouge trader from Blackstone fortress as the cold trader, and a more decorated Kroot as the bosun, so does anyone know what might fit in with those?

I made a similar thread a little while ago, Show off your Cold Traders - Smuggler Shore Parties (looking for inspiration/ideas).

For mine (which I hope to get done in the next week or so), I plan to use lizardmen with greenstuff space helmets for the void-born, an old placcy goliath for the bosun and a weird alien toy as the cold trader.

Ooo, I was actually thinking of using lizardmen as voidborn too, but I'm not great with greenstuff so I wasn't sure about it. I really look forward to seeing those, they sound really cool!

Well, I say “space helmets”... they are more like cloth with a screen/visor piece, which are kroot should pads. These are my blutac mockups, with the voidborn each having a goliath knife + extension to make them nice big combat knives & either a las or autopistol. The bosun shows the shotgun and also have a “space helmet”to tie them together, but the cold trader is not really wysiwyg.

I like the idea that the lizardmen can just go around wearing a space helmety thing and be like ”yeah, we’re totally humans, just wearing some thing armour with an augmented tail attachment for when we’re like floating around in space”

ps: I never claimed that mine would turn out well, or to have any gs skills

Have you considered other mini lines, or do you wanna stick with GW minis?

Bombshell has some interesting shark-headed aliens, for one example. They’re about the size of normal humans, tho.

I am still holding fast to my claim that their stats are an error that GW would not admit, even though Andy Hoare addressed that specifically. It will take the release of the models as ogryn sized brutes to change my mind!

Could you please link to any article that talks about that? My cursory search failed to yield relevant results.

The void born scum do seem quite tough, the Cold Traders seem to be by far the best outlaw
alliance. Don’t know how they compare to lawful ones, might read their rules properly later

I made this guy real quick based off a model I got through patreon, I think I did a decent enough job turning the weird vampire monster into a sci-fi bodyguard, but I don't know if it fits the aesthetic of the rest of the shore party, so I'm not sure if I'm gonna use him. Either way he looks really cool I think

Lawful alignments typically don't assist gangs with their entourage if the gang has 10+ rep (varies by Guild), while outlaw alliances will always send help.

Bosun https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Dark-Eldar-Lhamaean but there's tons of options for this, I think Blackstone fortress has some great minis for such purposes if you have them (I don't so I'm looking else where but I might still go for some of them anyway).

I've been looking at Malifaux stuff but I really really shouldnt its HIPs and beautiful and I could easily see myself investing in a few warbands if I spend too much time looking at it but I'm positive there's some amazing minis you can use to fill out alliance positions...

I am pretty sure some proxies could make better "void born scums" than ogryns... (which, IMHO, tend to be a bit classical for such a party, despite being great minis otherwise).

And contrast paints... Well. "Use with caution" should be written on every bottle. Especially for skin effects (no offense intended, just an observation).

Not bad. Haven't heard of that one before. I'll have to look it up on their website. I'm partial to zBrush.
