Battletech. Show us your mechs!

That’s a sexy camo scheme. I’d say great minds think alike but wouldn’t want to put myself in the category of “great minds”.

Here’s my mercs from the starter set, plus a small terrain piece made from off brand pound shop matchbox cars.

Inner Sphere mechs coming along nicely.

Happy with my decision to make them all different so far. I particularly like the Locust (chicken at the front) whose scheme was a happy accident.

Edit: Added an arctic camo blackjack.

If you hadn't guessed, my IS company is... uh... Not big on conformity, each Mech Warrior being allowed a colour scheme of their choosing. Haven't thought of a name for them yet though.

A Hex mat! I haven’t seen one of those in 20 years!!

Now I think about it, it kinda stirs memories of Battletech on hexes.

As a slightly related aside, does anyone remember those Hex tiles that were all the rage late 90s/early 2000s?? They seemed to die out quickly.

The heroscape tiles? You still see them around every so often.

The hex maps are new prints. Very useful for quick games as you don't need to set up a table.
Big tiles, this is the only image I could find and that took ages!!

I guess they were a massive hassle, you must just need loads for a layout!! But they were a thing for a while.

Hmmm I’ve seen pictures before but wowsers, and I say this as someone who’s built more crazy tables and scenery than most, that’s a lot of faff!

Can you imagine the effort involved in getting it all to fit together in multiple configurations!!? Roads, hills and rivers would all need to be spot on.

I believe you use a template. bearing in mind all you need to do in center on a relatively short edge of hex.

I've done similar in the past for campaign map tiles and its fairly quick

Now I’m just thinking 3D Lost Patrol tiles!!

Not sure how you’d randomise that though…

I can see it wouldn't be an issue for 2D map tiles, but these are 3D - there are hills etc which overflow the edges of the tiles. So, say you use two tiles with hills, you then must use a tile that matches them for the other side of those hills. Or have cliffs everywhere like an earthquake zone. Looks like a lot of faff to get a good result.

They're made of that bendy plastic that the go-to hobby glues hate. They could still be converted of course, but it would not be as easy as usual. It would probably involve pinning for strength (like the old days!).
