N18 Beginners Question Box

Might as well give the fighters that -1T/S gene-smithing defect to explain their smaller sizes ;)
I would absolutely encourage using older Goliath models as Unforged or Juves and Prospects!

Base sizes are not mentionned anywhere in the rules.
People who insist you use 32mm bases will probably also point out that OG Goliath miniatures are way tinier than the new ones, which makes just as much of a difference as base size.

More importantly, some old miniatures wield weapons that are no longer legal under the latest iteration of the rules. For instance, a Goliath ganger can no longer wield a lasgun, an autogun or an autopistol.
I would like to warn new players that this article is very out of date, as heavy weapons and Juves (and much more) are now available to Goliath gangs, and they can buy lasguns from the trading post if they so wish. It's still good for size comparisons though.

While goliaths can absolutely buy lasguns that is very different from being able to use them. With the release of house of chains back in 2020 all your gangers and Juves were list locked for weapons (no goliath fighter has list access to lasguns) and prospects can only branch out for pistols and cc. Equipping lasguns to your champions is a good idea for a back up weapon but I certainly wouldn't make it a primary which is what you really want to model

I absolutely temporarily forgot about the Ganger weapon limits in House of Chains

If you like them vintage Goliath's, use them! It turns out there ain't no GW secret police force. Base sizes? The difference between Goliath's old 25mm bases and new 32mm bases, is a 3.5mm charge range.
Be aware, though...The new Necromunda models are better than the old ones. A lot better. I have tons of the former (all painted and properly based). Over time, I have replaced them with new ones (all also painted and properly based). Resistance is futile. I use the adorable old ones for Juves. And, I don't use Juves all that much. I use my beloved vintage Savvies for Hive Dwellers.

The rules don't specify base size, but if you're using a model - whatever base model - as a leader then the standard leader base is the most sensible choice, assuming it fits.

You “should” use the smaller base but in reality it doesn’t really matter that much and I would use the larger base as it will fit the Stimmer much better.

In games terms the larger base doesn’t make that much difference and Necromunda is not usually played in the same WAAC spirit as 40k.

People who care about base size should also care about miniature size so they will object to your conversion no matter what.
Use whatever looks best, the rules have nothing to say about that one way or another.

Yes, 100%. I suspected that the Genesmithing probably was designed to allow for those who had older models to use.

The Un, VAT and Nat types also play into this for conversions and 90s era models. If you want. It doesn’t matter any which way.

However... I do concur that unmodified mixing of ranges looks weird. So I’ve got my older ones and newer ones as two separate gangs.

I have however converted 90s plastics to modern Juves and they look fine. Real “small man syndrome” going on there quite fits with their new title of bullies.

Yikes x 90! Aside from the facts the older plastics are "less than select," (and most of the gangs in our group never bother with Juves; even free ones)...THIS is dedication! Respect.

Yep... plus I got 12 cheap off of eBay!! Haha.

I intend to give them different loadouts so I can chop and change. Or rather, not chop.

This is the only photo I have uploaded but you get the drift! (He does look super cool painted up!!)

I'm just trying to get started in this. I got House of Artifice, I picked up a digital copy of the rule book off of the GW site, and now I'm trying to figure out tactics cards. I saw there are something like 300 of them and barely any of them are in print anymore. How does everyone else typically that situation for setting up tactics cards? It seems the rules just pick up anything you want, but that seems a little absurd and puts people just now getting into the game at a steep disadvantage.

I just switched to using the ones in the back of House of Blades and never looked back. But for those so inclined there are printable versions in the vault here: Tactics cards

The House of ____ books each have a D66 tactics card table that let you randomly select cards from a list of 18 (pages 126-128 for HoA) . With most physical cards now being unavailable, and provided everyone in the campaign is playing an house gang (or an Outcast gang, assuming there are cards for them in the new book), this looks like the easiest/fairest way to handle them (either roll on the table as instructed, make your own DIY cards using the text from the book, or map each card to one from a regular deck of cards — e.g A♣ is Longshot, 2♣ is Power up, etc.)

My local campaign has basically restricted tactics cards to those that are in the new House of books (plus a generic home made table of 18 cards for non-house gangs).

It seemed the easiest to manage and most fair method for me to implement as the arbitrator.

We have previously allowed people to make their own limited decal to be used for the entire campaign and that also works, but most people print out one of the copies of the cards listed above and then put them into card sleeves with a normal playing card for support.

I am considering to ask the players to build their deck from the cards, with a minimum size of 1 card per 100 gang rating, plus 3. (or something along those lines)
A small gang therefore has a tighter, more pinpointed deck, while a stronger gang has more "bloat".
Having a crowd of 15 people, and or a couple of headstrong champions makes it more difficult to control their ever step.

And then, 'picking' a card means drawing two and discarding one, or such.

I’m still surprised they haven’t made the actual fighter cards available any more outside of a big box set. Saying that at the back of the Outcast gang assembly guide there is a black and white one available to photocopy.

It does seem strange though that they’d introduce such a mechanic and then make it as difficult as possible to actually use them.

(Yes, YakTribe can do it for you, I know.)
