N18 Beginners Question Box

Do helots and corrupted house gangs automatically suffer a mutation on a lasting injury roll of 46-56 or do they still need to roll a 6+ on a d6 (with modifies for the source of injury being chaotic, daemonic, or the victim having existing mutations)?

If so, that seems like it will make the insurrection phase of an Uprising campaign wonky. In that, it'll be more likely for non-chaotic gangs to pick up mutations than the chaotic gang they might be fighting.
If I understand Book of Ruin correctly, only fighters from chaos-alligned gangs (helots, grinders, corrupted gangs) have a chance to gain mutation by rolling a 6+ on injury roll of 46-56. So non-chaotic gangs should be safe, unless insurrection rules of the campaign in question state that they can gain mutations.

Hi All,
Played the very first edition of NEcromunda when it came out, litteraly played around a 1000 games I guess, nights on end. Now as I've run into a friend who playes the current edition I am looking for returning to this game next to my BloodBowl league.

I am baffled by the new miniatures but definately confused by the host of rulebooks.

What do I need to start playing, only the Gang Wars book?

lol .. I guess so but just got that for some adjustments and upgrades of our home.

Scrolling through all those books and thinking I start to understand the logic. Am I correct in assuming I need the Hive Wars and Book of Outcasts books to cover all the more or less basic rules for the current game? (and I say this knowing I leave the outside (ash wastes) stuff lying aside for hte moment)

The 'book of .. ' are Gang - expansions basically I guess.

If you can get your hands on Rulebook of 2018 and Gangs of the Underhive, than that should be enough for a decent campaign. Hive Wars if I'm not mistaking is basically rulebook of 2018, but the campaign is cut. Book of outcasts is not essential. In fact no book is essential other than Rulebook of 2018 and Gangs of the Underhive (or if anyone of your players are using House of X books, then every player should have a book for their house).

"Ash wastes" brings vehicles into the mix and the rules for them are pretty bad. It is excessive and definitely not for a new player I'd say.

The hard cover rulebook, released in 2018, is still current but excludes any updates from the FAQ and addenda, plus it there are a number of “minor” clarifications in the newer rulebooks.

What it doesn’t have are the gangs and costs. For those you either need the out of print Gangs of the Underhive book, which covers the basics of the house gangs (leaders, champions, gangers, and juves).

The Gangs of the Underhive book has been made obsolete by the house specific books (House of…) which are essentially codexes for each house gang. They have all the basic parts plus specialist champions, specialist juves and a bunch of special equipment and other rules for that house gang.

The new Ashwastes box includes an up to date rulebook with additional vehicle rules and a campaign that is suited to having vehicles in it.

Alternatively to buying the books you can search out one of the many fan made rules compilations.

You want:

Rulebook
RECOMMENDED: 2018 Rulebook (hardcover) remains easiest to source and most comprehensive. Provides core rules (inc basic Psyker rules), a campaign (Dominion) and core scenarios, and it also includes the core skill sets used by all gangs.
  • Alternative rulebooks include:
    • Dark Uprising Rulebook: core rules plus dark uprising campaign (not psykers), a campaign (dark uprising campaign), rules for Enforcers and Corpse Grinders, and core skill sets used by all gangs.
    • Hive Wars Rulebook: simplified core rules, simplified gang creation rules. Does have some updated (better) rules e.g. around sentries and sneak attack rules.
    • Ash Wastes Rulebook: core rules, plus vehicle rules. Ash Wastes campaign.
Don’t get the original 2017 rulebook or the supporting ‘Gang Wars‘ SoftBank supplements, as these are all superceded.

House books
Each House book provides updated gang creation rules for each of the House gangs, including house specific hangers on, brutes, dramatis personae, skills, terrain, scenarios, equipment lists etc.
E.G if you want to play an Escher gang, get House of Blades, You don’t NEED any of the others.

Alternative: Gangs of the Underhive presenters the original gang creation lists for each House gang. But these have now been superceded by the House of Books.

Book of… books
Each of these provides additional, optional rules (some more optional than others, depending what you want to play, but definitely not essential). They pretty much all include some matrial you can’t find elsewhere (e.g. Dramatis personae) as a ‘nice to have’.
  • Book or Peril: Badzone Environments, Badzone Scenarios, Badzone Trading Post, Venators gang list
  • Book of Judgement: Law & Misrule campaign. Black Market, Criminal Alliances, Palatainate Enforcers gang list
  • Book of Ruin: Gang lists for Genestealer cults, Helot Cults, Corpse Grinder Cults. Rules for corrupting House gangs, Scenarios.
  • Book of the Outcast: Outcast gangs. Uplated and expanded Psyker rules. Outlander Campaign and Scenarios. Updated Trading post.
  • Book of the Outlands: Gang lists for Ash Waste Nomads and Squat Propsectors, Vehicle rules and Vehicle creation rules.
If you expect to play with vehicles, Book of the Outlands is probably essential (includes all vehicle rules from Ash Wastes Rulebook, and Vehicle creation rules not found elsewhere)

Narrative books
Only one so far: Cinderak Burning. Narrative campaign focussed around ongoing narrative.

There are many rumours and nothing concrete about this book.

++ Twilight Zone Music ++

What we know is it was released in 2018 and since then many other books have been released which updated, replace or supersede rules included in it. Plus FAQ sheet.

But then there is the mysterious phenomenon of “Second Printing” Edition of books. Several have been found out there in the wild already, mostly House of… books. There is a rumour that there may be a “2P” version of this book too - with the Errata and FAQ amended. Though so far no one has come forward with any evidence.

One rather unreliable source even claimed that he saw a copy with the Warhammer logo on the spine instead of the Games Workshop red and yellow logo that was used up until 2019. But no copies were present when I went to check my FLGS.

There’s generally no way to check until you buy a book either as they are sealed. You can only discover if you open it and check the publishing details page.

Some scenarios have +1 xp for taking an enemy OoA as a scenario specific reward as well as a standard reward. Do those stack for +2xp from each enemy OoA?

Sure! Nothing prevents it. Game is always starved of XP, take all you can get. Easy to suspect GW of forgetting that universal XP rewards were made back in 2017/2018, but who knows?

Hey all,
So we played our first game of Necromunda today and while we had a good time we found a couple of edge cases where we could not find the rules covering them. We just house ruled them but the one that stood out was the ability to have someone prone after being shot, then charged by another character.
Would the character being charged stand up and fight? even if they had already taken their action that round? Do they get the -1 for turning to face the person who charged them?

Greetings all;

So I starting Necromunda with a couple of friends and I am wondering a few things.
Can you sell items at the start of a campaign as part of gang creation? So if I want to sell off all my stub pistols to help fund auto pistol purchases can I do that?
Also can an Enforcer gang start with the Hardened Cybermastif?
Why are the Enforcers so expensive when they have terrible stats compared to everyone else?
Is it a good idea to start as Enforcers or would Van Saar be a better choice?

Thanks for your help

Also how do you add a Hardcase Cybermastif to an Enforcer Squad?
There is no option to buy it as equipment for a character; so do you just have to use the add pet option under gang controls and manually deduct the credits?

No, you can't sell starting equipment. It's gamey and breaks the intention and WYSIWYG of official models. Accessing Trading Post to buy/sell is after each battle, not before. The rules don't cover what happens when you remove equipment that's included with the fighter. Do you reduce the rating of the fighter accordingly? Not all starting equipment has a cost, ref Van Saar suits and Corpsegrinder masks. Of course you can break the rules and GW's intentions and sell it anyway if you want.
A better way would be to make your own house rule gang that doesn't start with any equipment, then you are free to buy whatever you want. If you first are going to trim the starting equipment, you might as well drop the magnacles too! After N19 (when Enforcers were released), GW has luckily moved away from starting equipment for most gangs and fighters. It was a problem for a lot of gangs before that.

Hardcase Cybermastif is Common pet for Enforcers and they can start with it just like all other gangs can start with their gang-specific pets.

Enforcers are expensive because they come with included equipment worth 60 credits. In particular the armoured undersuit (combined armour) is some of the best in the whole game.

Both Enforcers and Van Saar is a good choice depending on how you like to play and how you like the design.

You can't sell at the start of the campaign no. You can't drop weapons either, they're sticky to the person they're on, though a lot of groups allow swapping under certain conditions.

You can start with the hardcase yes. It was added to their list with the enforcer bounty hunter model from FW.

The enforcers are so expensive because they come loaded with gear. A standard palanite comes loaded with 60 credits worth of gear. The main piece being the armoured undersuit which costs 25, just reducing their cost by this they cost 45 credits a body which is within the normal range for a ganger. This particular piece is usually in high demand for armour as its the best way to improve your save beyond a 5+

Thanks guys.

So how do I actually add a Hardcase Cyberhound?

I just write it on the roster :p Sorry can't help you with that one. But it has been discussed before:
