Ben's Bits n Bobs

I've been away visiting family for the past two weeks, hence lack of updates. This is actually something I did before I went, but didn't get round to photographing:

I wasn't keen on the horizontal join line on the arch, so tried to fill it with filler (spackle). I was quite pleased with the effect, so decided to cover everything with filler, mixed with black paint and PVA. It now has a texture that, at least to me, looks like worn stone.

It still needs paint and sealing, but this is close to what the end product will look like.

That looks great! The bits of the joint that are unfilled make it just seem older, like the mortar weathered away or something.

I've had my eye on that set, to use as warhounds for my Witch Hunters. Looking forward to seeing them painted. They're rather large, right?

This is another picture of stuff done before I went away... Various Frostgrave bodies converted into scavvies:

I posted these guys on Facebook earlier and just got a 'like' from Andy Chambers!

ETA: I was tempted to screenshot it, but can't work out how to do so, at least not without including other people's names/profiles. So, you'll just have to take my word for it!

This week, I have mostly been thinking about home insurance...

I got home from work Tuesday to find water dripping through the bedroom ceiling. By 10:30 or so a large chunk of the ceiling came down.

While this is bad news, it could have been a lot worse. Thankfully, we weren't either in the room or out of the house. We were able to retrieve most important things, including my laptop, before the collapse. Also, I had taken out home emergency cover last time I renewed our home insurance - probably the best £35 I've spent in a while. Someone was able to come Wednesday afternoon and make a temporary fix to the roof, before we were hit by another storm that night/Thursday, so it doesn't seem to be letting any more water in.

The bad news is that this ceiling and loft insulation is probably fully of asbestos or other nasties. We probably shouldn't have been handling it as much as we have but, on the other hand, leaving it lying around didn't seem a good idea either... And this is the only proper bed in the house, so we've been sleeping in an airbed on the kitchen floor, which isn't the best for sleeping or cooking.

You may not be seeing much hobby progress for a while I'm afraid.
