Building the warshed thread

Ive been looking at all whole host of 12V DC Inverted powerbanks the last few months with some soft-grid power supply options with electrician work (though Ive moved away from a more rural and practicable location to a small city, so my approach has kinda changed towards it as of recent). Would certainly be interested to hear your thoughts/pick your brain on what you come up with.

With online, even specific to amazon, theres a lot of options. 12V LED striptape lights dont even have to be inverted, and yeah some minimal wattage Space heater and USB charger plugs and youd be set. The views are spectacular, like getting to follow along to the build progress 🙂

Once everything was squared up started putting in more 2x6s used lots of blocking because I went light on the plywood and used 5/8 vs. 3/4"

Plywood going on. No nails. Everything getting screwed which takes a long time! Rotating batteries and this lil Impact Driver overheating.

Now that there is a flat stable platform I frame out the wall. Again used lots of blocking in between the studs for extra strength and because the 2x4s have been exposed to the sun a good bit and warped / twisted.
This platform is my sons new favorite place to play under.

First wall complete. Put a 16 footer across the back to keep it from racking.

Screwed some off cuts to the 2x6s. I was a little nervous about flipping this up and over the platform by accident so these helped get everything into place before screwing it down.

Had a friend give me a hand while we lifted it up and got everything plumbed up.
It's framed out for 2 back 'windows' In the bottom right you'll see I have a bunch of shutters that were taken off of a hurricane damaged home I'm going to recycle and use for this project.

And now we are all caught up to date. And Yes I framed out a door. A window just wouldn't do I'll have to put a small porch for um... painting under natural sunlight and having a few beers in a lawn chair. :giggle:

Have the cuts ready for the front wall. Weather permitting I'm hoping to have the other 2 walls up next weekend. That said - the crew that was doing our kitchen cabinets in the cottage maybe back and there is a lot of prep to be done there.

Yeah. I'm on the fence. I don't want to make it too fancy or the wife will start to have 'other plans' for this building!
I'm leaning towards one of those 200w systems on Amazon with 1-2 batteries for storage but still doing research. We def. wont need a space heater ever but I'd like to add a ceiling fan with an LED light and a few outlets for misc stuff. Then again my experience is if you can afford to go with more power go ahead and do it.... Really have to check the budget and factor in shipping. I'll keep posting here but I'm going to hold off on the decision until I get the whole thing complete.

This is looking good. I like!

That porch... how you planning that? looks currently like the door leads to a fairly significant drop. Might jsut be me, and I've missed where it is.

It is very steep there. I need to get it cleared of brush a bit more. As of now the idea is to put in a few more 4x4s and tie into the existing structure. Only going out about 8ft and cross brace the heck out of it. Really hoping for a lot of rock down there. :X3:

Another weekend another wall going up. This took a lot longer then expected.

I have 2 doors that were from another structure that i wanted to re-purpose. ( the blue ones leaning on the structure at the end )

warshed20.jpg

Well... just figured the doors match... turned out one door was 33" wide and 82" tall and the other was 36.5" wide and 81" tall! The fun challenges when recycling materials. Seriously thought about getting rid of the recycle idea and putting in french doors, but I gotta keep costs down so I can put more toys in it. Should have the last wall down next weekend and then on the pitched part of the shed roof.

It took my friend and i few hours to get everything lined up. The 2x4s were very warped. Used a 4ft level to check everything before putting in diagonal bracing. Ended up having to put ratched straps on the wall to pull it in tight to the end wall. Used construction adhesive and 4in screws where the walls meet and a few more to tack in the wall to the floor. Ill add more structural screws before I add the exterior. Maybe close to finishing by the end of May.

I must say, you’re going to have a lovely view from your war shed. I’d be afraid of that drop, though (the “call of the void” is strong for me). And of the Mrs saying “that is a lovely view. Thanks for the she-shed.”

Last wall is framed and ready to go. Took me almost a full week to post pictures. Real life work is more than chaotic it is  chaotic evil. like demogorgon evil. let's just say it was a bad week filled with attorneys and accountants and board members and mental health counseling. The good news is a picked up a old hobby I used to enjoy called drinking.... :ROFLMAO: so yeah I got that going for me.

And....back to the plan.
Got the last wall built and I'm not sure if I want to start on the roof next. I'm kinda thinking of that 'call of the void' and doing the deck just to make it easier to get the siding and the door installed on precipice / deadly drop off side. Either way may take this weekend off for Mothers Day and anything I need to do on the kitchen of the cottage ( contractor showed up today! )

This is the current state of the shed. I have loads of lumber and spare shutters ( blue ones laid about ) wheel barrow and concrete mixer looking for a home. You can kinda see the palm tree I planted to the right and I put in a mango that I grew from a seed the same year my son was born on the other side. By the time he is old enough for a tree fort it maybe big enough.

I'll probably take the weekend and make some adjustments and add a boat load of metal hurricane straps for continuous load path. That way if it ever blows away it will all go at once and take away all everything thats in it.

small update...

Orkifying the war shed to withstand cataclysmic forces. Ok a little dramatic. Had a few hours in between bday party to ad a few hurricane straps. The idea is to create a continuous load from the roof structure, framing and to the foundation. Will be doing this at all corners doors and windows. Adding diagonal strapping to help resist lateral forces that may rack the structure. Which happened to be neighbors home. The house was ok but twisted and they prevented all doors and windows from opening.

My son added the dino for guard duty.
