ORIGINAL POST:
Greetings fellow hive dwellers!
Hello and welcome to the first ever documentation of what I get upto when I'm all by myself! :D
In this post I'll just be going through my list of projects (my plans are for the long run), my hope is that maybe having an audience might inspire/encourage me to actually finish something! I'd really love to hear what you chaps think, and when I start to get the pictures up I really hope you enjoy my work! I aim to post something at least once a week, even if it's just abit art work or something 40k related, now...time to open the trapdoor that is my thought process...( I think you might say downloading, if you arnt old enough to remember Bert!?:))
Immediate projects:
  • Guilder slave train - (modelling/painting/terrain) using Perry miniatures Sudanese tribesmen to make a representation of underhive justice at its worst, this will feature in my comp entry.
  • Underhive ruins - (terrain/painting) recreating the classic cardboard set using plasticard and imperial sector tiles, this is halfway made already, I mainly want to get it at least built for me brother coming home at Christmas. (possible campaign report)
  • 40k ruins and scatter - (painting) interpretation of 2nd edition 40k cardboard terrain. It was a moment of madness, but when I first seen the imperial sector kit I thought 'I'll buy one kit and see how far I can stretch it out' ... 2 years, 2 kits, 1 promethium pipeline, 1 container kit, 1 shrine of the Aquila, 1 set of craters, 1 set of barricades, x amount of plasticard, x amount of glue, x amount of Jaffacakes (you'll see)... I'm stretchier than Mr incredibles missus! And I still havnt even undercoated them!
Stuff in the (promethium) pipeline:
  • Dexters lobotomy - (painting/terrain) I painted up a delaque gang a fair few years ago and at the time I was fed up painting skin tone, so I painted them a cold pale blue, fast forward to a few weeks ago, I looked at a spare juve I had, I watched dexters laboratory, I looked at my deathly looking snake lovers, and the concept just came to life on its own!
  • Vermintide brewery - (terrain) I made a Goliath gang out by kit bashing catchans with the old reliable plastic goliaths, because I just couldn't get away with the last lot of metal ones. Anyway, the gang Is made and painted, I just wanted to make some terrain out of whisky paraphernalia I have (just to give them a bit flavour! :p)
  • The friendly doc school of medicine - (painting/terrain) I was looking at the handful of van Saar I own at about the same time Dexter popped into existence, and there isn't enough to make a gang, so I thought they would make a nice little enterague of hired guns for him! Iv already put together and undercoated all but the wyrd ( psychiatrist) and I'd like to make a tower or something to go with them.
  • Badlands promethium - (painting/modeling) I fell in love with the new chaos cultists when I first saw them, so I just knew I had to chop some up to turn into something else! I was also playing a lot of borderlands at the time so they ended up with a really garish colour scheme, so the plan is a repaint and abit of a tinker with weapons and things, also got my freebie slaughter priest scaly to show off.
  • The holy redemption - (painting/modeling) I did a lot of headswaping when I put the cultists together and I ended up with way more models than I really needed for just 1 gang so I'm going to use some of the bits from me comp entry and paint them the sacred red of the redemption, going to fit in at least 1 evicerator and flamer.
  • Necromunda taxi/ambulance - (modeling/painting) just a simple kitbash of a ork war buggy and a land speeder storm, when I get it, the missus bought me plain landspeeder for my bday when I specifically asked for a storm! I think you can all feel my pain :p I'm using some of the buggy for the comp.
  • Literal guilder caravan - (painting) I stole the design and furniture of a model me bro had made then kit-bashed a ork truck and a tamiya German half track, it's all made and undercoated, just needs a lick of paint, can't wait to show it off
  • Ash waste haulage - (painting) kit bash of a leman Russ tank and a space marine landspeeder (guess where that came from?), also made a trailer to go with it but I'm not really stuck on it, might look better with paint on.
Painting projects
Ratskins, orlocks, esher, squats, guilder, hired guns, chaos cultists.
Showcase stuff
Cawdor and zombies

Some great direction outlined here, will be keen to see what you have in store for us all :)

For terrain, check out what @ClockworkOrange has in his plog for the reason of creating a modular framework to a terrain set. I am pretty sure Clock has gone about it the same way I had (albeit with a far more intuitive knack for making stuff), but if you are kicking off a terrain project from the beginning I would offer using the Cities of Death dimensions as a template. All my terrain projects are based around the 8cm tall and 5cm wide rectangular prisms that a CoD set would make. When based, I leave a 2.5cm border around everything so that they can be pushed together and you get that same 5cm width for alleyways. The heights make it easy to make a bunch of levels, because Necromunda is even more awesome when your board has a webway of gangplanks, catwalks, and platforms to play on.

I've echoed the fact before to many fellow Yaks, but truly the basis of a great terrain set are platforms (think 25cm by 25cm at 8cm tall, completely flat top so you can stack more terrain on top), then towers (such as 15cm by 15cm platforms stacked on a central pillar with about 3 levels, 8cm each), catwalks (various lengths at 5-10cm wide with railings - the cover on these is SO SO SO important!), and scatter terrain. It is pretty standard stuff, and it ties everything back into the standard CoD stuff so well to turn a 40K landscape into an Underhive (y)

I eagerly look forward to your work Captain. Since I'm looking to kick off my also ambitious project soon I'm very interested to see how you progress.

Aargh, so many numbers! I have just traced around the existing stuff and hoped, with every cut, I didn't slice my finger off! :p I really love your attention to detail tho, it's the type of thing I hope to gain from my yak adventure (time, NN :p). Clockworkoranges stuff is the bomb, it's the type of stuff that makes you think 'oh man I wish I could have a game on that', and tho my stuff is vaguely similar, it's just on a completely lesser scale. As for using the tile size for a template, I'm almost certain I stole the idea from here actually, it was that long ago though, I couldn't say who I stole it from. My main source of inspiration was from here also come to think of it, I'm sorry I can't remember who it was either, but they made a building that was an arbite watchhouse with two consoles either side, one for informing and one for confession. Iv decided not to base them, as I think they they are quite stable structures, and I was looking at gaming mats when I first started putting them together and thought it would be more complementary to just leave it. I'll get a picture up today so you have a better idea, thanks for the insight and being the first response to what I hope will one day be a lengthy thread :)

Thank you Mr strobe, you can guarantee my presence at your thread :) it'll be a good excuse to try my tele-porter :p

Stay away from that trapdoor... there's something down there...
Lot of cool concepts, get them done allready ;-)
 Iv got loads more ideas but they just get bonked on the head and kicked back down the hole! My comp entry will be the masters dinner at the moment, but I'll be baking as fast as I can once it's done :p 'down drut'

I second GW cities of death stuff - check out my towers built with them one £100 GW set built all that with pieces to spare that I'm still using.
I remember looking at this many moons ago, thanks for the inspiration! I really like your marine statues, especially on top of the towers. I tried looking for the bigger cities of death set but I couldn't get hold of one. I did manage to get a sweet deal on eBay though, I got the resin barricades, the complete craters set and a complete set of sector imperialis for the same price I would have paid for just the tiles. I'll be posting some pics in abit, hope you like my take on the concept.

This is my prototype piece, it is totally rough around the edges, at least I thought so before I started making the other buildings, they are getting progressively worse!
image.jpg

This is from another angle, the ladders were made from Jaffa cake packaging, they were of the cheap and nasty variety, their taste was bitter and their origins were questionable, but I still managed to eat them all for the sake of progress:p
image.jpg

This is from the plan view, just so you can see the size adjustment I made to accommodate the bigger bulkheads, please ignore my not so straight, inferior cutting skills.
image.jpg

This is just to show how I'll be finishing the set off, I still havnt worked out how the pieces will be distributed between all the buildings.
image.jpg

This is a selection of walkways, I forgot to count how many I have, but it must be at least a dozen, all different sizes and shapes.
image.jpg

This is just to show how they fit together, I was abit worried that they wouldn't be structurally sound, but even broken apart and glued back together, the imperialis tiles are strong and sturdy! I had tuns of fun working out how I would use all the bits, i just hope that my paintwork will make up for my abysmal modelling skills!
Hope you all like it?

Nice, Look forward to seeing it all painted ;-)
:)Cheers, iv still got another wedge building and the processing tower to make, but I'll be taking some 'before' pictures of it all together before I put any paint down.

I used MDF for the floor but I reckon plasticard would be better and lighter.
From my local hobby shop an a4 sheet of card only cost £1.65, I don't know if that is cheap or not, but for a 3 level building that is only a fiver! I used a harder plastic which kept the price down a little, but I think that might have been negated by that I had to use superglue instead of polycement. I also tried using a thinner card for one of the buildings, it was only £1.30 a sheet, but it just didn't cut as nice or feel as sturdy.

Your modelling skills are far from abysmal, it looks great, and if your painting is of a similar standard it will look amazing when finished and all the pieces are put together. Wish I had space to store this sort of thing, I want to get stuck in with you guys and get making some terrainy goodness! By the way, that is one ambitious list of projects you got there, your making us all look bad! Well, me anyway.:p

Nice! I came up with a cool solution for the railings on walkways with the skull buttresses. I'll see if I can dig out a photo.

Cheers mate, I hope all is well in the noodle household, and may I say, your sparkly new red badge is rather fetching! I'd think papa smurf might not be as impressed tho :p
I really appreciate your complements, tho I'm the worst kind of perfectionist I.e. A really lazy one:confused: I just have a very strong idea of what I would like things to look like, and in this instance, all I can see is gaps, wonky lines and really incredibly wavy cuts! :)
I also wish I had the space to store it, I'm going to have to ask Santa for a really big box:p my list has no deadline, so I wouldn't worry, it's mostly to remind myself (I already forgot to include a few things!).
Whats next on your modeling agenda?

I really like what you've done so far. Really looking classic Necromunda even using the modern parts. The walkways look great. I particularly think the tiles rotated 45° with the broken edges. Also having the overlapping edges to the parapet/railing so the pieces really lock together helps it feel like a single piece even when I know it isn't.

Something I like for when the paint goes on is having a selection of colour. Monochrome Underhive may be more realistic but the GW from the 80s and 90s was pretty garish. I guess it's a bit of nostalgia speaking but some bright colours in places go a long way to providing interest for the terrain.
