Necromunda Captain's Log

very nice terrain. i love the modified "orignal-look".
Danke kommisar! Glad you like it! i know for a fact I won't be able to get the same standard of finish as you have on yours, but I hope you will like it when it is painted up!?

gern! its not so hard to give it a good finish. 1st step: painting (look and colour how u like) than give it some easy grafity to bring more "live" in it. probably you have a printer so you can print some 40k poster. if you want to give the terrain more live make a little Base for it with sand, some stones and some bitz like barrels or more living with rats and spider like id do.

here some variants from poster i found.

Danke again meine kommisar!! I totally had to just look up what gern was :p! I was going for a more 'clean' look to my corner of the hive (I don't know if that is just my lazy subconscious ) but I'll definately be drawing a lot of inspiration from the posters you have just sent! Much appreciation! :)

While I was in the buying phase of my necro building project I received some extra bits and bobs in an eBay package (thank you eBay person) and I thought they lent themselves really well to being objective markers. Iv never owned either kit, but I believe one is from the imperial bastion and the other from a space marine rhino, I could be wrong. I hope you like what iv done with them

To match the rest of the scenery, and the piece itself, I decided to make one more religious looking and the other more mechanical. The idea behind is that the first is some kind of shrine to a saint or a memorial to the dead, and the technical one being some kind of monitoring station or maybe an emergency point (in case of emergency break glass for bolt gun:p). And while I was happy with the outcome, I wasn't happy with the size or dimensions, I.e. You can see it a mile off and from a side profile it is quite flat (well, more flat than I wanted considering the original is a piece of card :p) Here is a comparison shot next to the original
image.jpg

So I got tinkering with some parts and come up with this

I'm not completely happy with it and it needs finishing abit more, but I thought I'd show you to see what ideas get chucked about. I was thinking it needs a control panel (mebees made with an auspex) and something to connect the two sets of legs to bulk the base out abit (possibly chains), what do you think? Let me know what you think of my scatter pieces/former objectives? Hope you like :)
Up next... Some models me thinks...

I like the two pieces made out of Cities of Death wall sections. They will work fine as objectives and LoS blockers even if they are much bigger than the cardboard water still piece. I would fill in the gap above the Rhino control panel (remove the remnants of the door and fit a piece of plastic card into the hole) because right now it looks odd.

The smaller piece with the Landspeeder exhausts is neat, but what are they meant to be doing? Having two huge exhausts not connected to anything doesn't make sense.

Cheers sump dweller! Affirmative on the rhino control piece, I think that is just a manifestation of my laziness! :) And I'm totally with you on the... Er... Generator?!? It just doesn't have any narrative at all and I think it shows. I really want to keep both sides of detail on the panel underneath tho, so I'm really not sure how I'm going to get around that atm. I think I want to make it ever so slightly taller too. I won't be doing it today, but I hope you like my changes

Again some neat repurposing of the existing panels.

The issue sump probably has with the exhausts is them still looking to him like the exhausts he knows. If you want to make it taller anyway decoration with piping coming out of them might be possible. Maybe conical pen caps. When it's a generator, I like the wire connectors that can be cannibalized out of old computers and even a small circuit board or coil can be usefull. Maybe some greenstuffing and then it's in the painting to let his eye believe it's something different. Since it's a generator I'd also try fitting a cage on the legs that are like waiting for it already, aren't they?

Thanks for the ideas KRVSH, I can see where your coming from, the land speeder engine really is an iconic shape, and at a glance that is all that registers. So my task really is to try and break up the siloette and to blend in the more recognisable shape with the new understructure, ...hmm... I'll try my best. The cage idea is a total winner tho, thanks again

Hey Cap!, - these objective markers are great! - some great combinations here - can't wait to see them painted man! - get on it!!!!

These were the last models I painted so it just seems logical that they be the first to be shown, hope you like them :)
I should guess you've picked up on it but I was going for a strong green theme, like they had been swimming in toxic waste or something! I had wanted a more olive green for the trousers but I just had to use what I had, and for the shirts I painted a yellowy brown because I imagined they were once white but have been well worn since! At first I was going to go for white eyes, as if they were all milky, but after I had painted everything else I just thought that a red would draw the eye (pun intended :D) better and it looks like they have a bloodlust and I'm sure conjunctivitis is in this zombie season! :p
I wanted a bright white for the hair as I imagined that rather than the hair follicles just losing their colour, it would be supernaturally growing, but devoid of life!
And lastly, I don't usually paint the bases grey, it's just I didn't have any black at the time :p
Thanks for looking :)
Up next.... 2nd edition 40k inspired ruins

Great looking horde of zombies there Captain. I particularly like undead Imperial Guard wherever I see them.

Cheers sump dweller! I could have really used that flak armour for my comp entry, but oh well, I didn't know at the time! :) I just thought it gave abit interest to an otherwise straight out the box build!
And may I take this opportunity to say congratulations on your promotion! You do right, taking It in your stride! I for one think your pants are rather fetching! :) When I first saw your new avatar I went straight to your thread to see what was going on, and then you put a link up to the paint room thread, and by the time I had read that I totally forgot what I had been looking at in the first place! I don't know if that was a tactical manoeuvre but it definately worked on me! :p But where I'm from pants mean your underwear, and what everyone calls pants we say trousers! We still used to say fancy pants growing up though, so for us it had a funnier connotation! :D
It's taken a while to get used to your new avatar tho, abit like when someone shaves their moustache off (or in this case grown one), I really liked your evil eye one but I think this new one is great! Actually... You look a bit space captainy... Can I ask, have you ever attended imperial danger school?

Thanks @CaptainDangerous - I thought that the whole 'Mr. Fancy Pants' thing was very funny (and I like the idea of someone who hasn't seen my thread wondering why the hell I have that title.)

I liked the old Escher (Maurits Cornelis that is, not the misandrist Necromundan house) drawing avatar too, but the title required a new avatar. As I said in the other thread, those are the fanciest pants I have ever painted (trousers that is - I am English too, but I grew up in Canada where pants mean trousers, so I think of the word both ways, and I don't have any models in fancy underwear...) The model is a Rogue Trader, based on the cover art from the old Black Library book 'Eye Of Terror' and he probably has been to Imperial danger school.

:) A model in fancy 'pants' would have been really funny! :)
So I guess you don't wear jumpers or trainers then? :p
But loving your rogue trader, now that you point it out, I totally remember that book coming out! Never got to read it tho :(
Eshers art is incredible! I once tried to replicate that labyrinth one at school... I failed!
And... Oh.... I love your painting room by the way.... Oh.... Sorry.... I mean the -spare walk in wardrobe that was there when you bought the house and since it's there you might as well use it- room :p:LOL:

Unscheduled update:
Look what I got last night, thank you Mrs Dangerous! :D

An early Christmas present from the missus no less!! :)
I'm almost certain my Xmas presents were delivered yesterday and this is her way of trying to be coy, but Im quite satisfied with her logic! :p
image.jpg

This pile of plastic will one day become captain dangerous's off road buggy of the wastes! Im going to be kit bashing the storm and an old ork wabuggy (I can't believe both kits are the same price!), I was supposed to get them together at the same time, but the company I went with sent a regular land speeder (Mrs D said it was their fault but I'm not so sure!? :p ). But it wasn't that big a problem as iv used, or have plans for, just about all the parts from it!
Iv got a few ideas about the paint scheme and fluff, but I'll save it closer to when I put it together.

The beginnings of the I.S.S. Crumpet safari team! :)
Previously planned, but forgotten to add to the list, are a kitbashed spyer team! IV got a load of dark elder bits acquired through eBay bulk buying, I had planned to just sell them back on, but this is so much better I hope you would agree!? :)
image.jpg

And this is for meine kommisar shriken, he knows what I mean! (y);):p

Thanks for looking :D

Awwww man that's cool!, (kudos to Mrs Dangerous too!) - I always wanted to attempt a SM landspeeder / ork buggy kitbash conversion myself - every since I saw some bloke do it in (a now surely anicent) issue of White Dwarf (a blood angels one I believe) - always a fan of the SM scouts too, less "lumbering-space-jocks" and more "niaive proto-lumbering space-jocks with alot to learn" - looking forward to seeing the I.S.S. Crumpet in all her ash-blasted, rust-encrusted glory one day mate!

Cheers Duke :D
But I'm afraid The Crumpet is ship shape and rust free, she is a fine space worthy vessel and is currently docked in necromunda's orbit! Most it's crew are on shore leave, they said something about having 'interesting times' ...whatever that means!? But I need the buggy as all this land lubbin' doesn't suit me! Most the time I just traverse back and forth between The Crumpet and the underhive using this hand held teleport homing beacon I keep in my pocke.....eh.....ur.....
*he checks his many secret pockets of his fashionably dusty and ragged wasteland attire*
...shit...
...Guess I better get started on the buggy! :p

But yeah, can't wait to make a start! I didn't even know the storm existed, I was looking at taurox tread conversions afew months ago and the land speeder conversions kept popping up! And when I went on GW's site to check it out I noticed they were still selling the warbuggy, so at that point it was a done deal!
It's going to be an expensive bit of scenery, but I think it's going to be worth it! :)

oh yes! cant wait to see the painted canibals (and the buggy-conversion from the landspeeder too)! ;)
Ssshhhh!!!.... Kommisar, are you trying to get us hung from the nearest shrine of the Aquila?!!
*puts his arm across the kommisars shoulders and looks around to see if anyone's listening*
<whispering> One wink means keep it quiet and two winks means tell nobody! If the administatum or the arbites find out about our involvement in space marine cannibalism, you might lose your rank and I might lose my captains hat! And worse... If the Ultramarines find out... That is one big blue tin of beans I don't want to open!!
*stands tall and unsuspecting*
.....so that is how you clean squig bits from your attack bike, thank you kommisar, I really wouldn't have guessed!;)

:p:D
Thank you kommisar, likewise, I eagerly await seeing more of your amazing work :)
