Necromunda Cardyfreak's Necromunda plog

I can also feel your pain having done an MDF Zone Mortalis set - though a lot less work than yours!! Mine was mostly texture sprayed and then rust powders.
Even so, there’s still a lot of individual pieces.

Excellent work!!

Bought myself a few sets of the ruined zone Mortalis terrain and have finished the bulk of the stuff, just a few bits and bobs to do like the pipes and doors and whatnot. They’re on the desk as we speak.

Yeees! Love it! Need to paint my set of ruined ZM and Data Terminal Thingies as well. But Malstrain conversion fun started happening. And a Warcry warband of Greenskins needs to be painted first.

Well done, looks great!

I saw someone on Insta had done some cool electronic jiggery-pokery with the data stacks and some magnetic switches so that red led lights would come on when the little data thingies were placed in their enclosure, and that’s the next little project for me when I finish with some more terrain!

Well.. that's certainly less insane than the glowy eye Necrons I saw once. Crazy guy actually did it with individual LEDs and not light pipes... madman

Yes there’s a limit not only to my skills, but the level of dedication to projects that I possess, and that sounds like it goes beyond mine 😂 would look cool as anything though

Well I’ve just spent the afternoon magnetising the shit out of my zone Mortalis stuff. My fingers are now so caked in superglue I can’t type on my phone properly. But just look at it.

This is 70 single walls, 13 double walls, 108 columns, a gang hideout, and a bunch of other crap.

There’s also this-
IMG_5042.jpeg

It’s all the doors, floors, and other bits and bobs from all those boxes of Mortalis.

A serious milestone for me this. I bought loads of boxes of this shit and it just sat in the loft for years. My big summer terrain drive has yielded much fruit ha! That’s all this stuff done, my ash wastes stuff complete, my Fronteris set is about 50% complete, and I’ve got two market sets glued up waiting for priming, and another gang hideout on sprue. The final big thing needing doing is the boarding actions terrain, and two of all the add-on sets. They’re clipped and the various small elements are glued, I just need to sand the connecting tabs down on the walls and start painting it. Not a bad haul really.

Epic collection, can't wait to see terrain builds.
I’m having a game tonight with @UnderCaveman, I’ll take some shots and post them.
The part I’ve been scratching my head over is how best to use the platform tiles. I think I just need to get some setups done and glue together useful shapes. There’s sooooo much though, like it’s hard to see the woods for the trees kind of thing ha!

oo cant wait to see the pics!

That is a majestic sight! Congrats on your dedication to complete this.

If it's not too much hassle do please outline your process/paints used. Those are some of the best ZM tiles I have seen to date.

I posted a how-to on Instagram, here’s the link.

Edit- here’s the text for those who don’t use Instagram

Zone Mortalis Painting Method-

1- Spray walls and columns with #thecolourforge black, then dust with Standard Grey from a slight angle, then lightly dust with Ghoul Grey from a steeper angle.

2- Spray the lids with GW Wraithbone.

3- Paint random panels with Agrellan Earth (any crackle texture paint will do), hit them with a hairdryer to speed the process and get some really cool cracks!

4- Basecoat the panels with GW XV-88 using an airbrush for speed. Don’t worry too much about neatness, but try and keep it within the panels as best you can. If you don’t have an airbrush just use a brush!

5- Layer Vallejo Game Air Off-White with an airbrush over the XV-88 (or GW Wraithbone), leaving some brown showing towards the bottom of the panels. Again, don’t worry too much about neatness but try to be as neat as you can. Any accidents just add variation and won’t be noticeable after the wash and drybrush stage!

6- Paint any metallics on the lids and walls. I used Retributer armour for the lights on the walls. Use random variations of silver/gold/bronze/copper for visual interest.
Spray everything lightly with water (I used an empty kitchen cleaner bottle), then apply a heavy brown/black wash (I made my own with water, matte medium, flow improver, and black and brown ink mixed together).
On the lids, wipe off the wash from the flat parts with paper towel while the wash is still wet so when everything is dry they still look bright.

7- Drybrush the walls with Tyrant Skull.

All that’s left is to add details and weathering effects to taste! I use GW Contrast Warp Lightning green to paint the light sections on the walls too, but any bright contrast will do!

Didn’t actually get a game in cos I hadn’t set the board up before hand and it took so bloody long to do it lol
But here’s the setup, we’ll be gaming on it next week.

We didn’t use the whole set, and in terms of density it’s perhaps an exercise in ‘just because you can, doesn’t mean you should’ 😂

I’d encourage the same thing, but I’m afraid I’d have to do the same thing and I don’t think that’s possible…
