Cawdor/GW4 Speculations/Discussions

@Petitioner's City Thanks, man, really great that you share this.

Aww thanks!

That Murder Cyborg sounds familiar... wasn’t it in a White Dwarf back in the 90s? I remember them using an assassin model back then too.

It was Andy Chambers's thing originally, and was included in Battles in the Underhive compilation. See https://yaktribe.games/community/vault/tales-from-the-underhive.91/

You don't even need to create a full-blown scenario to be able to capture the cult movie feel in your games. You can have cameo type sub-plot that run through your campaign and find their way into games when the players are least expecting it. When Andy Chambers was running the Studio campaign we had a sub-plot going on for several weeks with a Cyborg Assassin hiding out in the Underhive. The Cyborg could change shape freely, so you could never know who it was disguised as at any one time. I've included the rules for the Cyborg Assassin (on the previous page) just as Andy wrote them, so you can see how simple it is to work this kind of thing into your games. The trade delegation bombing that Andy mentions refers to an event that had happened the previous week in our Studio campaign.

For more from the Battles in the Underhive supplement, see here.

All looks good, I've actually stopped myself studying the screen shots so I can get it all in the book!

Anyone interested in a skirmish gang design competition aimed at creating effective but characterful skirmish gangs?

Anyone else already plotting conversions for these new house brutes? The Goliath Zerker looks an awful lot like the dark elder grotesque but It's hard to judge the size of the model just from pics alone - looks about half way between a Goliath and an ogryn? So, what to do for the head....

I wondered about skaven things, with more normal legs and a goliath head for the body

Or even Stormfiends but they are so big

I wonder if I could get away with a Crypt flayer for a Goliath Berserker...

I’m getting a definite Joker + Bane serum vibe from what I can see of the rules...

I don't want to go too big, I get the impression that it's still smaller than an ogryn.

[...]

Mind you, I do like the rat ogres too.... hmm

Brutes include ogryns and are compared to big players in Blood Bowl, which include Rat Ogres...so I think they do fit in that scale. Also read the Zerker fluff - I think the Goliaths are already thiught to be massive (almost their own class of abhumans), so the big zerkers must be huger. The fluff quote is an allusion to the Hulk also. And their stats!! s6, t5

Although brutes also include cargo-servitors which wouldnt suggest being soooo huge. Decisions - or your own open field.

I thought cargo servitors were, or at least included, servitorized ogryns?

Really interested in the Escher chimera. I'm tempted to convert one, even if they put out a model for it - the possibilities are just too great! Also, it's refreshing to have a brute with a degree class and elegance amid all these big dumb monstrosities and murderbots. :p

The drawing looks more normal sized, esp with the heavy bolter.

Think I'll just buy a clawed fiend for the chimera.
This zerker though is driving me nuts, I feel like there's an obvious choice of model I just can't put my finger on.

I can see the grotesque in there but try as I might, I just can't love that model :(

Mechanicus Servitor heads would work great. :) The big plastic ones come with two sizes of heads. One small, and one big. One each sprue. So anyone who collects them will have spares.

According to some rumours, the intent for bionics was to be a cheaper alternative than using normal advancements to repair the damage. Am I reading it wrong or are the bionics in fact much more expensive than normal advancements?

They spent a lot of effort to introduce two types of bionics: Mundane and Improved. The whole point seems to be to differentiate between the Lasting Injuries that include one or two stat decreases. But the injuries that include a single stat decrease are much more serious than those that include two stat decreases. So why bother? Is it worth adding this level of detail just to allow the option to fix willpower and/or intelligence?

Mundane and Improved bionics options:
-fix willpower only
-fix intelligence only
-fix willpower and intelligence
-fix cool only
-fix leadership only
-fix cool and leadership

Or just keep it real simple with bionics:
-fix cool and leadership
-fix willpower and intelligence
