Cawdor/GW4 Speculations/Discussions

I really dont like the amount of candles in the mini. A couple could be a nice touch, but so many is ridiculous. it would be much better if the mini wear some kind of backpack and the candles on top of it, maybe a portable shine as backpack?

Suppose they can always be targeted on unlit tiles or "In the Dark" scenario or if someone cuts the power on the "Archaeotech Device" territory!

Special rule incoming for models with candles on them - "Captain Obvious: When within LOS of a sentry, the alarm is automatically raised. When in cover, the to-hit penalty of the enemy firing at him is reduced by 1. Him and anyone within 3" can be targeted as normal in any situation that uses Darkness rules."

The noose is a holy symbol on Necromunda, probably related to some forgotten saint who was martyred by hanging.
So this dude is like those guys you see wearing multiple oversized crosses, just in case you had cause to doubt their devotion for a microsecond.

But surely when a model with candles is targeted by someone with photo goggles you roll as per flash grenade then...

I've got mixed feelings on the cawdor resin bits. No respirator head, or extra champion head. I guess it's decent overall I just wish they snuck a couple bits in there like they did for the escher upgrades. I would have liked some incendiary charges bundled to put on the waist of a ganger as well.

Hoping to see Delaque at nova in a couple weeks, they might be my first gang purchase of the year if they turn out good. If they suck...well i'll probably backtrack to van saar or cawdor.

Blazing saddles anyone?

ANYONE?

Guys we are all looking at the executioner in a bad light, hes not actually an evil pointy hood hangman. He is a hero, every day in necromunda 4 cawdor juves nearly kill themselves when their nooses get caught on terrain when they get knocked of ledges, this dudes axe isnt for killing its for cutting those nooses and saving the juves, each noose he carries is a juve he has saved, his candles and pointy hood are so the cawdor juves can easily see him and call for help when they are caught.

If the noose is a holy symbol, and the candles are weird, just remember that in our reality, there's a death-obsessed cult who's insignia is one of the worst and most cruel execution methods employed by their own oppressors. On top of that, they perform ritualistic, symbolic cannibalism every cycle to purge them of moral corruption. And that's just what I was born into.
I'm being slightly facetious, since there's good reason for all of the things in the above sentence (and I'm not trying to make fun of Christianity!), but I can only imagine there's something similar in the Necromunda-flavoured Imperial faith. When viewed from the outside, it's absurd, but given their context, they probably make sense.

Or it's just GW borrowing aesthetics from the old models, trying to make them slightly Catholic-medieval-edgy. Who knows.

Perhaps I've just kept myself isolated and insulated, but it seems to me that the threat of a theoretical conversation has gained more traction than the conversation itself. I would find it very easy to believe that the Cawdor were being criticized for promoting a certain kind of image, but I've yet to actually see it happen.

I’m not sure the sight of candles bobbing around in the dark would be immediately alarming to gangers in the hive. Cawdor are legion, and will often be seen rummaging through piles of crap and sifting through whatever junk there is lying around. Gangers will have grown up seeing this, and though they may keep an eye on the bobbing flame, it may not promote an immediate burst of fire in the direction of the candle cos it’s just an everyday occurance.

I also imagine there's a lot of random glowing bits in the underhive, even in the dark. Small indicator lights still battling against the dark, glowing fungi or worms, gas leaks producing a tiny flame, and so on.

True for the chaps with a single candle on the shoulder for instance, but Candles McCandlehead there would stand out in the gloom like... well... a roman candle

I don't mean to - or expect anyone else to - ever actually enforce that rule. Unless they're being a total corpus spongiosum.
