Cawdor/GW4 Speculations/Discussions

Well the new Cawdor minis can also be used as Ash Waste Nomades with very few modifications, or could very easily be turned into Chaos Cultists.

As I recall the old Cawdors and old Redemptionists were too much the same in the old Necromunda, this might be to make them less the same as the Redemptionists, just a theory.

I could see the start of outlaw gangs in GW 4, to tie the Redemptionists in. In a similar way that Bounty Hunters started in GW2 with skeleton rules, but will apparently be developed more in GW4. Doing something to set up later editions in the current books makes sense.

As fare as I could understand from what Andy Hoare said nothing from the outland and other things from the old expansions will be created until after he has released the new things he wants to add into N17, such as the Guilder gangs and such, so I don't think any of the Outlaw gangs will be in GW4, probably going to be the House Brutes, rules for scrap building equipment, new scenarios, updated things that was written wrong in GW3, and other such things, its probably more likely that some of the outlaw stuff will be released in WD instead or something.

I'm disappointed with redesign. I've waited for them and now I think I won't buy them. It's not my story...
Description on the GW site says that the kit contains hoods.

They already presented hoods. Nr. 5 and 6. There won't be any others... Or maybe it'll but with FW resins... but hey... they have Goliaths / Escher, still not released Orlock & VS so IF they ever release them it will be next year.

A kit usually come with 10 head, So I guess the one not showing in the preview pic will be the gas-mask one?

Hopefully those rustodes guardian Spears count as a melee and a gun, that would be cool... Ranged/melee with only one weapon slot used... I like!

In fairness versitile already provided this, it's just that do far we have had cc weapons with a bit of range. Apposed to ranged weapons with a cc attachment.

It looks like the masks and hairstyles come separately.

Those are objectively good minis, and a well exploited theme. And of course, they are wonderful for all kind of conversions (cultits of all flavors (including fantasy ones), imperial citizen, etc.) and I'm sure a lot of blanchitsu stuff will happen to them.
However, they do nothing for me (which is a very good thing for my wallet and my backlog)

Well...I hope redemptionists are a thing in N17 and they keep their pointy hats without the KKK look.

Kinda disappointed that religious zealot translated into diseased leper freshmen to some designer at gw.
I think that’s specifically why they’ve gone for the diseased leper with this, to allow the classic look and theme of the Redemptionists to flourish without overshadowing altogether.

If they go the religious route, it would be cool if the Followers (Cawdor Gangers) were encouraged to donate and give everything, whilst the Higher Ups had everything. Opulent cloaks and silly hats for the redemptionists, jewellery everywhere. Would be an interesting contrast.

I do find it strange how GW trip themselves up, even with good kits; the legs with one missing shoe, and the pegs? All on the same side. There's a lot of attention to detail, and weird touches like a split bone as a shank (wonder how many creds that will cost), but then some glaring thing just goes completely under the radar. Why not have one body with two bare feet, then rely on the other parts of the mini to make them look different? Also, with 'bases and faces', anything to do with the feet will be noticed pretty quickly.

Well after having another look on a lap top and not me phone, I guess the art direction is implying there isn't much difference here between Chaos Cultists and Imperial Zealots. Was really thinking Cawdor was going to be 'my guys' but gonna pass on these models. I was secretly hoping for the Brotherhood doing time on Fury 161, aka the Double Y Chromo boys that 'found religion at the ass end of space.'
Anyways I gotta take off, I gotta "re-educate" some of the brothers!
Maybe find another base model for these guys should be too difficult.

After all these comments here I thought I was the only weirdo not liking them...
Didn't like the concept art and don't like the miniatures. Maybe with normal trousers and robes instead of bandages most of the models could have been good enough to get a box, but the way they are I will gladly stick to my old great looking Cawdors :)

Much like the new Van Saar, a lot of the positive feedback seems to focus on the great potential the models have for other purposes than a gang, and indicators of different and exciting approaches to design, myself included. However, I consider myself very lucky in having enough of the old models to maybe (maybe) run a gang, which would be preferable to me over the new minis.

I do think they are going to need some heavy converting, a few of which may grate as they shouldn't be necessary (the foot thing), and green stuff work. Really looking forward to seeing the sprues as well for arms; many are gripping poles, which may create its own strange type of restriction like the Escher and Goliath sprues in changing weapons.

It will also be good to see how they stand next to Poxwalkers and GSC, and how their pieces are broken up, as that might pave the way for more conversions.

That being said, somebody needs to stick a new Cawdor head and cape thing on a new Van Saar body to make Underhive Batman.
