Hello!

I'm starting a Cawdor Gang - and really like the idea of having them turn to chaos at some point during the campaign (the leader thinks he's getting visions from the Emperor.... but it's not trope.)

I really like preparing a bunch of models in advance - so wouldn't mind putting some corrupted cawdor together incase.

One thing I'm not entirely sure about is what list the gang uses if they turn? Can they (or do they) switch to using the Helot list? And if so - so the surviving Cawdor characters slowly get swapped out to Helots as they die off - or do I need to change them over to the list to the equivalent sections? What happens to the Cawdor specific stuff like the Heavy Crossbow and Stig Shambler?

In short I love the idea of having a witch, spawns and familiars.

Thanks in advance!

Book of Ruin is your friend here, pages 8-11. No, you do not get access to a witch or familiars however you will get access to a spawn,

But... you can combine both chaos cult and genestealer cult (addons, not gangs) onto your gang which will allow you to have a pyschic leader and familiars.

Ah! So it's like a bolt-on! That simplifies things much more.

I wonder how they'll fare without their faith abilities...

A double combo is a great idea! Gives me good Rogue Trader vibes!

Yep. I didn't realise it either, but stevepaintsandsculpts (Stephen May formerly of Forge World) mentioned it on Instagram on his work in progress for a chaos-genestealer hybrid. He flat out states it was the intention of Andy Hoare to allow it. Andy is a huge Rogue Trader (RT) fan and deliberately adds RT throwbacks into Heresy and Necromunda.

Not sure how'll you'll fair without faith abilities, but if you really lean into the wacky concept of chaos-genestealres you'll have a lot of fun finding out.

It's stuff like this that makes me love new necromunda and a lot of the newer GW stuff - like they're just mining the great ideas of the 80s but polishing them up a bit!

One thought I'd had for the gang, was to give an arbitrary score to each member for their religious leaning, from purist - moderate - maverick. The mavericks would be more inclined to find the emperor in the whispers and intrusive thoughts, and the purists would be the hardcore redemptionists. I'd put the word keeper flat in the middle, but should he die then the successor might just send it off the rails in either direction. Adding a genestealer element would be bananas!
