N17 Chaos Cultists Gang in WD April

How are you planning on getting Mesh armour? From what I know it's only available for purchase to Escher.

For now it is yes but its likely to be in the wargear section of future gang war books so will grab it then. Same with weapons they will be added in too. I'm using renegade militia models so im running most of my cultists bare then hitting up the trade post which supposedly is big in gw3

I guess one could house rule Escher's armour availability and price to everyone else. We don't know what they have in store for either the availability or price for other gangs yet, but they have been quite liberal with other common items.

I'm slightly confused as to what people were expecting with this gang?

It's literally the lowest form of chaos cult,so it won't have much support, people have asked for deamons, better psykers etc,but I feel that goes against what this gang is supposed to be...the very first seeds of the cult.

That said,I can't wait for the next chaos list.

On a more pessimistic point of view, its a WD list, what did people expect?

Killed me with that one, Topsy!

I think it's odd to hear people say that they expect the Genestealer Cult and Chaos Cult gangs to be weaker than the main gangs. Is it too much to ask for all gangs to be fairly balanced? Have our expectations gotten so low that an unbalanced game is simply expected so they should err on the side of non-main gangs to be weaker simply because we know they can't do any better?

I think from a fluff perspective it makes sense that they’re not as well equipped as the Houses. The Houses are pseudo governmental troops, whereas the Cults are both the dregs of society scavenging what they can.

I dread the chaos list. They can spam autoguns just as bad as Eshers can spam lasguns and they have a wandering Chaos shrine. And they have access to other equipment after the firs fight. And they can field heavy stubbers. What more do you need? I think this gang has the potential to be rely rely dangerous.

Long term, the Genestealers worry me.

The fact Acolytes can just hide is worrying, that means they’re purely the support class.

See, every other gang has to put their champions forwards, they’re both the support and the main hitters. Which means to use them a lot you have to risk them, put them above the trenches as it where. A bad game or unlucky plan, and suddenly you’re restricted in your mid game.

Acolytes don’t really have that risk, the aberrants are the main hitters, they’re at the biggest risk. So realistically, you can sit the acolytes back, nice and safe, and then blitz the post game, maximise credits and rare rolls.

Sure, just like some of the Outlander gangs only have access to rubbish weapon and equipment. But I think it should still be an enjoyable game for both parts.

You could say the same thing for w40k, Space Marines are the best, they have the best weapons, best armour... but with points balancing you can still play against a green tide of wild hillbilly orks with t-shirt save and choppas and not have the upper hand.

To be honest, "everyone" can have access to all common items before first fight. Everyone can field heavy stubbers. It's just a matter of how you want to play, and I see no reason to play with those rules RAW.

The books can say what they want, I think after 20+ years of Necromunda no one is stopping a Goliath gang from fielding a heavy stubber?

The autogun spam might be valid, gonna look into that...

That doesn't sound very fun. Acolytes have a wide selection of close combat weapons and pistols. So in order for them to have any effect on the game, they'll gonna have to get up real close to the enemy (B2B or pistol range). If you decide to hide them, you're losing their heavy hitter stats like WS3+ and BS3+. I don't see how that's much different from other champions (other than 1 wound and possibly different save).

Yup, which is why I’m not sure where the idea they’re bad has come from. Where i’m sat they look decent.

House Goliath is only a few days (weeks?) away from having officially access to the Heavy Stubber anyway (it's part of their weapon upgrade packs, as well as the Heavy Bolter and Heavy Flamer), and they are the only ones who can't currently take one at gang creation.

Days...weeks...months...I feel like a man on a desert island waiting for the kits.

All I want to do is make some psychotic Goliaths who paint their faces and armour in bright colours and carry balloon shaped clubs and grenades to scare away the evil spirits, and FW are intentionally thwarting me specifically!

No one else, just me!

But yeah, that kit looks baller. Hopefully Chaos and GSC get something similar, maybe not now, but in future that’d be cool.

They're bad because of 1 attack, 1 wound and 6+ save. One Acolyte charged my Orlock autogun ganger, and the ganger crushed the squishy bug. Sure unlikely, but no other Champion in the game would go out in that situation.

Edit: They are both good AND bad. Good offensive, bad defensive. I get your point now, there already are 2 heavy hitters. But Acolytes only have short range weapons so if they are going to have an effect on the game, you're also gambling with the income.

The GSC kits mix pretty well with the standard Imperial Guard/Cadian kits, I've swapped in a couple of lasguns & las pistols in with mine.

Actually they are pretty average in terms of size and proportion think you could mix in a ton of stuff.

Yes but still they do have a wandering chaos ritual. Last time i played with that tile everyone that got close to it went mad. And my champion took out two gangers in my team. The it was dreadful. My Escher leader start to shiver and cry every time someone mentions there is withes in the underhive.

There’s dozens of kits that mix well with them. I was on a painting rut, splurged on a load of kits, Scions, GSC, Skitarii, Empire Spearmen and Greatswords, alongside Flagellants, they all do alright.

Two of my favourite models to come out are a mix of Catachan and GSC, and parts from half a dozen other kits for bits. One is even going to be a Necromundan bounty hunter when the cost for Web Pistols and powermauls come out for general trade.

Using flagellants for the helots, top half gsc bottom half flagellant for disciples and demagogue pox walker for witch.

I ordered FW enforcers and militia amd plan to mix with neophyte GS. Hope it will go well.

is that just my amateur feel but flail is really good? +1 hit and +1 strenght ?
issue is there are not much flails around. Just at original DV sets whichbI dontbwant to cutnof from built models
