Got the bits for two statues- one will be a guilder, the other some sort of Space Marine "hero"

I’ve made a little progress on my trophy. I’ve updated my terrain thread.

As per another thread, I thought I'd give this a whirl. Had a quick rummage through the box of doom this morning and found this (image from ebay):

It's the event-only mini from Salute 2017. I had to have a quick look on ebay just in case it was fetching silly money as it only cost me £1, but it's nothing crazy, £12 or so seems to be the going rate so I'll happily use it for this.
It seems to be quite statue like as is, but I might need to 40k it up a little bit more. Brought it to work so I can figure out some kind of plinth for it. I'll set myself a deadline of a week or so to build, then paint within another week.

Awwww, I already made one for the Godly Erection competition.

Didn’t manage to get it finished in time for that one but have finished it before this one! Typical.

Anyway here it is:

For your inspiration fellow Yaks.
Ah man this is killer! I've never considered painting an oxidized copper look. How hard was it? Looks fantastic

Not very, it’s as time consuming as you make it!

Here’s a rough idea of my process:
  1. Paint the base model a flat brown
  2. Stipple on a mix of Turquoise and Mid Green (eyeball the colour)
  3. Stipple on the above but desaturated with a light Grey (45° angle from top)
  4. Wash any exposed brown areas with a black wash
  5. Use another clean brush to streak some black wash down over painted areas
  6. Mix up more of that Tur+Green+L Grey Mix with more grey and stipple that on top and exposed areas
  7. Use nihilakh oxide to streak or sit in select grooves (lighten with a pale grey or white if it’s not light enough)
I wouldn’t use any actual metallic bronze or brass paint unless the object is at a height where it can be touched or rubbed against to expose the untarnished metal.

Always check against actual statues etc to see how water streaks on them.

This one above shows why the black wash is a useful step. Also the 45° from top weathering.

Note the dark streaks over the verdigris on its right hand.

There are other ways (probably as many as there are painters!)

A quick way would be to spray brown, then slap on a load of dirty down verdigris paint. Doesn’t always look right though.

Wow, this is an extremely thorough response. And its my second day here, so know that I appreciate it.

Not Necromunda related- but I'm about to begin painting my Sororitas Imagifier and from what I see online most everyone leaves their St. Katherine a flat concrete color, and I find it very uninspired. (Maybe there's a lore reason for this i'm unaware of?)

So I'm gonna try this on mine! Thank you so much for the explanation and the inspiration

Basic materials for the brick wall image portion of the shrine. We'll see how this ends up.
Using spare sprues for bricks!? I just learned about this yesterday- what tool do you reccomend using to divide up the sprues with nice even cuts? If I use my usual cutters they're gonna be pretty rough so I haven't cut any yet. Not sure if the plastic is quite soft enough for an exacto either..

Finally threw something together today after having a little brainwave about the pillar - it's made from a (empty) 12g shotgun cartridge with .17HMR rimfire cartridges around the outside. Part of a brass door handle as the base.
A little greenstuff work to do to tidy it up and perhaps a couple more gubbins, but I should be able to start painting this week.

Reminds me of the charity collection boxes we used to get particularly in British stations made from old shells and bombs.

Bricks in my pic are foam board bricks. If I were going to try using sprue for bricks I'd try a pair of heavy duty straight nail clippers. If they can be used to trim off metal mini slotta base tabs then they might cut off sprue neatly. Good luck if you try it.

- WIP -

Been putting together my first board, and having joined this community I noticed this competition and was really inspired seeing everyones work!

I’m also simultaneously assembling a 40k Sororitas army on another table, and am painting an Imagifier right now. I’ve always thought the effigy of St Katherine was a little large and distracting on the battlefield, so I’m going to use a flag or something in place of it, and decided to use it for my Necromunda board instead!
