The comp 61 theme is...

Hallowed & Haunted
Models that havea sense of the sacred, the cursed, or uncanny. This can lean holy or profane, ghostly or consecrated - anything touched by forces beyond the mundane. The emphasis is atmosphere: a figure that feels blessed, doomed, haunted, or otherwise marked by the unseen.

You have six weeks - competition ends midnight Sunday the 19th April (as usual, really about 6am Monday 20th UK time).

Usual rules apply except when they don't.

Go!!

How does this work again...

I call on @Fold, @Casus and @Narflung as 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as @Biggle_Bear as fastest to submit themes for Comp 61.

When we get all four we'll get a short poll up to aim to start the comp next Sunday, hopefully.

Brainstorming thread for inspiration:

In the brainstorming thread I put two ideas. I didn’t think “collaboration” would work out so it wasn’t such a serious suggestion, but with Mankymeet coming up it might work. But attendees likely won’t have any spare time for it!

Or should I go for the low hanging fruit of “ruined corners”?

I will choose…

Collaboration Time

Work on a project with another Yaktribe member to make something. How you go about working together or the level of commitment may differ. Maybe one can only help with brainstorming ideas, or one sends the other a mystery box of bits in the post, or any other way to work together that you can come up with.

You can make anything you agree upon, and voting will technically be based upon what you make, but the true heart of the comp is the collaborative effort.

Just for clarity, is the idea that each entry be a joint entry (XYZ by Yak 1 and Yak 2)? Or is the idea that an entry belongs to Yak 1, say, despite Yak 2 having some input (supplying bits, advising on choices, whatever)? Or - given you say the collaboration can vary - are both options acceptable?

Sounds like an Excellent opportunity to become part of TribeMeet history by contributing a spectator for the latest update to the THUNDERCUBE!! Stadium!!

Can you elaborate on this classic corners idea?

Here's my comp suggestion:

"Local Legend"
Every settlement has a story about someone that everyone there knows. The sniper who never missed a shot. The heretic cultist who escaped the enforcers and fled into the vents. The half-mad scavvy who knows where an entire vault of archeotech is... Create a character who has become a rumour and/or local legend - folk hero, cautionary tale, or local monster - in their corner of your chosen setting. They can be admired, feared, mocked, or loathed, but they must feel like someone folks will talk about for generations to come.

I would suggest that each entry has two names attached (or more I suppose). But why make hard rules on that!

The classic corner ruins like you got in the 2nd edition 40k box presumably.
Exactly as Trafalgar put it.

I was quite tempted to put forward your corner ruin idea but in the end I'll stick with the original plan. It's a good one though Biggle!

Alas, no. Often the way with the comps - a theme comes up you've just finished something for. He's very cool though.

Ha. I actually have an idea and a couple of unused boxes that'll work for this, given to me for running local 40k tournaments. Looking forward to it, but since I'll be out of town next week I probably won't be working on this until the 18th or so.

I've long wanted to make a mausoleum, for the so named Frostgrave scenario. I'll make an official "in"-post once I get some stuff together.

Damnit. I just placed an order with @Mad Robot and almost ordered the new voodoo skull heads. But then I thought “yeah, they’re cool, but what would I use them for?”
