Finished! Here are my collated shots of the underhive shrine; these Juves seek sanctuary as they are forced to put their differences aside.

I’m impressed with the ambition.
Yeah it was touch and go there today..

Edited to add: made with plastic sheet, cardboard, balsa, clear acetate and various textures. The candles are plastic rod, expox5 putty and spue glue.

Paint is wet but it will have to do.

Comp 61…

Whisper Antennea

They are not trees. They only pretend to be.

In the lower reaches of the hive, where vox traffic degrades into static and memory itself becomes unreliable, these structures have begun to appear. No guild claims them. No tech-priest will catalog them. And yet… they grow.

Formed from discarded plasteel, broken sprues, and scrap lattice, they assemble themselves over time—rising from sump-stained platforms like iron thorns seeking a signal no one else can hear.

Locals call them Whisper Antennae.

Those who linger nearby report a low-frequency hum, felt more in the bones than heard. Fighters complain of voices buried in the noise—familiar at first, then wrong. Always wrong.

When blood is spilled near them, the signal strengthens.

Bodies left within their reach do not remain still for long.

Some claim the structures are trying to broadcast.
Others insist they are trying to receive.

No one agrees on what answers back.

Special rule - if a fighter is taken out of action within 6” of a Whisper Antennae then they roll on the Plague Zombie injury chart, as if taken out of action from a Plague Zombie, regardless of how they were taken out of action.

My photography let me down there. There are details that I am fond of that just don’t look right.

But considering the standard that has been set it wouldn’t make much difference. Everyone has made such wonderful entries.

I think your idea is super cool. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings! And I’d like to see the details in question…

Well I may have been a bit ambitious trying to get in on this project. Vampires got base coated and then it just never moved on from there. I'll just have to paint them for fun instead of for awards 😭

Bigglebear your entry reminds me of the Shrike and tree of thorns from Hyperion Cantos.

They remind me of a story I read ages ago. Brain fog is stopping me putting my finger on which one but you caught the picture I had when reading it. May have been a Gaunts Ghosts or something similar. Chaos infused metal things.

Wire-wolves? Daemons summoned to inhabit wire sculptures made in predator shapes. From Gaunt's Ghosts when they infiltrated the Chaos world Geren(sp?).

Cast my votes which was very difficult as the standard is really high! Nice one guys.

Didn’t enter this comp either - this is the first one that began when I’ve been active on the forums so don’t want to repeat that! Must try harder - hopefully I’ll find more motivation for the next theme . . . 🤷🏻‍♂️
I've found the Yak Comp to be a huge driver for trying out new things, painting models that likely would have stayed unpainted, and otherwise pushing my boundaries. Even if the theme doesn't motivate you, just start something; you'll be surprised.

I find a good way to find the rhythm for the comps is to make the easiest possible entry one or two comps. I had a slump and to get back into it I just made a kit bash. And get it done early. If you can have a finished entry in three days that can give the confidence to try a bigger project next time.
