Ok, I’m going to commit to this. I’ll be working on the very first terrain project I started my “From Hoard to Hive” terrain thread with. Then gave up on. More in my Comp thread (and my terrain thread).
EDIT: Apparently i started this for YakComp 20. yowza!

Looks like there will be a cool spread of entries here.

Progress on my end is limited to cleaning up mould lines and flash on the bulk of the team, something that doesn't warrant a photo.

I did however discover another preloved project that I can incorporate into my entry - this ogre:

He is part of an ill-fated early-2010s project to collect every Blood Bowl star player. That project died after about two models when I realised star players were so expensive that they’d probably never see the tabletop. Sure enough, this guy has spent more than a decade in the display cabinet without playing a single game.

At the time, Blood Bowl was abandoned by Games Workshop and the choice of third-party miniatures was pretty grim. This was one of the better models available, and I did the best I could with him and there he remained.

Now he finally has a job: joining the permanent roster of the human team. Both the sculpt and my old paint job need some attention, and stylistically he doesn’t sit particularly well alongside the 2003 human models. So he’s getting a double glow-up: improving the miniature itself while bringing him into line with the rest of the team.

The plan is to replace the overly human-looking head, sharpen and rework the shoulder pads, swap out some of the fur-covered arms, and remove the abundance of cartoonish skulls. I’ll introduce the square studs, spikes and shield-shaped armour plates found throughout the human team, plus steel toe caps matching the blockers. And he'll get a limited repaint - keeping as much of what's already done as possible.

After more than a decade waiting for a game, he might finally get his chance on the gridiron.

After an hour or so under the scalpel and files I’m liking it more already. I’m not removing the head or hands yet as my bits box raid didn’t turn up anything to replace them - quite glad I didn’t do my usual thing and get involved with the saw before checking.

You can see on the accompanying human models that the studs and spikes have a square profile. I’m pondering how to replicate this - has anyone got any cunning ideas?

I could get some square profile plasticard but I think trying to chop and sand them evenly could drive me mad. Unless I perhaps get one of those micromark chop it devices (or similar) for precision plasticard cutting.

I could try and sculpt them. That might work for the rivits but I’m skeptical about the bigger spikes.

I have no other ideas.

To have a hope of hitting the comp deadline I think I have to make good painting progress on holiday next week. Does anyone have any experience and tips of passing miniatures, paints and brushes through carry on security?

To have

So on my comp thread i was talking about mod podging all the exposed foam so i could hit it with a spray primer. @Ben_S made a suggestion from a youtube video he saw about mixing paint with the mod podge to perform double duty: covering the foam and acting like a primer. I didn't have a big enough tub of black, so i used some darker tan house paint. It worked (sorta). I could see all the places I missed due to the tint, but it was a little too transparent. I think the mod podge acted a bit like a medium and thinned it way down. It might've worked better with black. So today i took it outside and hit it with my favorite gray primer. Nothing melted! So it worked. No pics though. It's just like the one above but gray.

There’s still plenty time, so I’ll see if I can stick this pile of stuff together:

The story behind it, is that it used to be pre loved by my little brother, @Biggle_Bear , and used to be a battle wagon for his freebooter ork warlord …until I stole the tracks off it to make my Hive guy Chimera and CMOT Dangerous’ sausage wagon!
So iv demolished one of my budget baneblades, and will be refitting Biggles original bodywork with brand new tracks more befitting of a giant Sandcrawler!
(Which I’ll probably steal for my own pirate themed warlord!)

This chap here was the first model I bought with my own money (I got the Warhammer box set for Christmas). He was also one of the first models I fully painted; badly (I was 12).

Presenting the 1st incarnation of Warboss Klawbog da Magnificent, who lead my waagh for many years before being demoted and replaced by various newcomers (namely Morglum Necksnapper, Grom the Paunch and Azhag the Slaughterer):

I don't know why I never bought a full unit of these Boarboyz (teenage me's purchasing decisions puzzle me to this day) so he used to lead my wolf riders a lot.
