This is going nicely. I have the concept locked in. Few drafts of text portion done. Bit of painting and texturing on the trashbashed display stand and then painting that. I am not sure if I get the real photographer in here for photo, but I´ll get a photo posted before the deadline.

OK. So how do we do this when we are done? Make a definite post to this thread? Is it one photo with the text or are multiple images allowed in the competition post? Thank you in advance for the clarification.

I did some recon to the previous yakcomps and now I have a visual strategy. A picture coming before 16th of Sept..

f**k it! My fellow competitors can not get help from professional photographers, so I submit this:

Shit Show Studio proudly presents:
Yakcomp 63 entry:
EIGHT OG ORANGECOATS

I did write about how I completely destroyed these guys multiple times with my gangs or how they were painted in our circles at the time up to such a high standard that inspired me multiple times to try improve my painting.

But then, when trying to parce together the in-universe story of these guys, going through the rather big pile of gang rosters that I have accumulated over the years. I started to think about all the people who filled one with me, whom I laughed when the dice gods smile upon you with four consecutive ones, whom I bickered with over esoteric rule interpretations about cover, the times when you´d get a great rare item from market place only to not have enough credits because these Orangecoats murdered your team and times when miniatures thrown in anger leave permanent marks to walls.

Some of these friends have moved to different cities and countries, having lifes and families that at the time when we played we could not image for better or worse. Some have played their last game long time ago before shuffling their mortal coil and leaving the rest of us to nerd out here with these kinds of projects.

These eight Orangecoats was painted and modded by my dear old friend in 1997 when he introduced me to the game. He bought them in Ropecon of that year with the original box set and I have not looked back since.

What I did was repair all the chipping and make little bit more definition in their faces, then I pinned few of the modded parts with guitar string and reglued them. Also I rebased them for the photos. Finally giving them an ultra matte clearcoat. 98% of the paint job is original from last millenia. I have just been the custodian of these guys for the past few decades. Now the photo lives as a continued shared memory and the Eight OG Orangecoats are stronger then ever.

Flesh is weak, but metal minis endure.

These guys have been in this state for approximately 12 years… so I guess they’ll do.

My own Abaddon conversion made using the plastic chaos lord and some metal arms that fell off the original body. Plus, if I get time, his retinue of mildly converted terminators.

Out of curiosity, for my entry to be "complete," do i have to have the bits glued together? They will end up glued into a single structure. Eventually. It can be done before the deadline. They're not being kept separate for "ease of storage" or anything like that.

Looking good all, and I like your story @Longtime Lurker

Don’t forget we need a “before” photo as well with the finished submissions.
Thank you. I posted the only before picture that I have access to and that most likely exists. That is the one with the tupperware full of minis where all other except the orangecoats are greyscaled and it is maybe a month or so old. I´d need to go and borrow Vatican´s fabled chronovisor to get pix these when they saw most action.

I had a moment this morning and glued it together. That's when i realized the third level was on sideways. I'll have to take correctly aligned pictures, and write up a bit about it as per the rules of the comp.

Lots of terrain is modular - being rigidly stuck together isn't necessary in my book. If you could play on it as it is, then its fine.

Edit: looks like we posted at the same time. Stuck together is good too!

I’ve mostly assembled my entry but finding it hard to get daylight time to take photos. Still plenty of time to procrastinate about painting it.

My entry is a mini neighborhood next to a capped heat exchanger. There’s a rogue doc on the second floor and a trading post on the third floor (selling guns, gear, and Rat Wear -as worn by Zephyr Blurr, famous hover board skater). There’s tiny living quarters on each level, with the first and fourth floors being dedicated living spaces. I started this for YakComp 20. It’s mostly foam inserts from a baby gate, foamcore, and various thicknesses of cardboard. There’s a few bits from my bits box dotted about. I made most the posters and stuff myself, with the exception of Moira’s Boardshop. There’s also part of a Troll-Bru sign in one place.

So this is where I stand:

Yes, that is not much further than last time, at first glance. BUT! I have been fastidiously at work with increasingly smaller and smaller tools removing frankly ridiculously tenacious paint flecks between baths in alcohol. The model was bathed in alcohol, not me, as of now I still drink the stuff.

Also, for a bit more story: This guy was caked in several layers of paint, having been a loyal follower of several warbands, both mine and those of my mates, back in the 90s. Way back when I played a cult of the Possessed, and having absolutely no way of getting at the metal models (we have one whole store that had Mordheim stuff, and they only had the plastic kits and some blisters) I converted my own. And as luck would have it, I found my old Magister:

This was so close to my first kitbash, might as well count it as the first. An ancient plastic sorcerer of light with a trophy head from the Zombie sprue, attrocious GS dreadlocks, a for my time rather okay GS hand with a skull from some Chaos model, and a Dark Elf shield emblem as an apron. I think he was armed with an axe, but that, as is evident, snapped off a tiny while back.

So I started converting myself a battle barge to take to the LGT last year but never got round to painting it. I had to borrow a fleet off the TO.

Then I painted it up 6 months ago to take to a different event. Hated my work, dropped it into acetone.

Along with another battle barge mini I had assembled and begun to paint in a different orange scheme.

Now the remains of these two projects have been merged together in the hope that 3rd time lucky. I will get a battle barge I like and will use.

I'm in the process of painting it for this year's LGT.
