A while ago, I was asked if I ever cospayed anything Necromunda. I haven't, but the idea has stuck with me. Here's where I'm at, but, before I start, a few things. One, feel free to expand this beyond Necromunda, that's just my passion. Two, I really like things to be functional, so I will be figuring costumes that would work well in paintball or similar as that is also a passion. Three, this is mostly a thought experiment that I'm sharing with you all to see what I can come up with and what any of you might come up with. If I, or anyone, should actually make a cosplay outfit, I really want to see it (of course if it's mine, that will be much easier for me to see). Well, lets start with what came out in ORB and Outlanders.

The House that translates easiest, to my mind, is Redemptionist. They already wear masks and there are custom paintball masks made now:

and while robes would be sorta rough to wear on most paintball fields, they would be easy to make and wear. I think I'd avoid the pointy hats as I really don't want to explain that I'm not a racist, I just am playing a true one that hates Xenos... but a brother or a Cawdor would be easy & Cawdor wear pants!

Some variation on a friar's garb would be ideal for either:

Cawdor may be the first I attempt, just need to figure the straps around my boots and what paints wold look good and hold up. Hoping for this coming Halloween.

The other that I think would translate easily are Van Saar. Since they are obviously based on the stillsuits from Dune and since they wear some sort of face covering, rather minimal, true, a mask wouldn't be much of a stretch (ok, a bit). While this would be very cool, it would be hard to make and hot! Not terrible for Halloween, probably, but not ideal for a first try.

Another that would be easy & translate well would be Delaque:
The-Strangers.jpg

and might be a better look as our beloved Delaque wear goggles and just goggles for paintball are easy to come by (although eating paintballs is utterly gross!):

Now, while I could do this tomorrow, as I have a black duster and could easily cannibalize one of my masks, I can't quite pull this off. I am pasty white (Irish/Norwegian mix) which works, but I have hair, a lot of it. I've always thought of Delaque as bald and really find it weird when someone has a model with hair an calls it a Delaque. So until I do something like donate my hair to Locks of Love or lose a bet, Delaque are out.

Now the truly easiest to simply cosplay would be Orlock:

or Goliath:

Although I come nowhere close to this big or fit.
or Escher (if you are female, obvously):

Only masks don't look quite right with these last three.

For Scavvies, a custom mask, like the one above, integrated into a full outfit would be rather cool, but a lot of work. I'm not sure how a Ratskin could ever look right on the field. And Spyrers...

As for what markers to use to complete it, this is sci-fi so most any work, but I think one of the more mil-sim type would work best. At lest if you're going for the autogun look. X7 & A5 from Tippmann would both be great choices. Anything from BT or MilSig would do the job. I think mag loaded would be ideal and the DYE Assault Matrix would be great except for price or Tiberius Arms' T4.1, but that wouldn't be my first choice either. Really I'd go for something from RAP4. I have a 468, but I'd really like something like this:
rap4_468guardianL_scarab_1024x1024.jpg

if I were to design it from the start as it really looks very lasgun-like to me.

Anyway, more on what I'm thinking to try to do by next Halloween soon.

I wouldn't use any kind of 'Real Gun' you never know what kind of trouble you might get into with it - I'd scratch build some Bolt Pistols or Something, in fact, that'd look awesome...Hmmm...*strokes Chin* (Future Comp maybe?!)

Well, one of my goals is to take it out to a Halloween paintball game. There's always a few around here, so the 'real gun' isn't an issue there. Now one other way to have functionality is Nerf. A simple repaint there and you've got an autogun and a stub gun without any 'real gun' issues as well. No matter what the costume could easily be worn without weapons and end all issues (since I work for the schools that would probably have to be one way to wear it).

Ya' know, @nooker, all those tattoos would make an Orlock costume pretty pricey...

If your hair is too existent to be a Delaque, you could grow it til Hallowe'en, brave a ponytail, and get a lime green duster jacket to be Kal Jericho ;)
Yeah, but the tatoos would totally be worth it if I could afford them. Hadn't thought of Kal. I could probably pull that off to a certain degree...

Seems an awfully expensive way to do it! But, if you already play Paintball, then yeah, no problems!

(aww...I miss paintball...I might see if I can a team together this weekend)

Small, one hand optionable markers (just learned this now, but already sound like a pro) could perhaps receive a "cus- Kuztom" casing in the like of a Boltpistol. Would be a pretty sweet project I think, specially the more blockier ones, like you can find on Andy's "twins" he's painting at the moment.

For paintball I think I'd pick something like Orlock or cawdor. Something with a big, heavy tabard to take the force out of impacts . Definitely not Van Saar!

My paintstripper heat gun broke down last week. Been thinking of getting some pipe to go on the nozzle and make it a Meltapistol. Then I realised I also still have the old Nintendo Zapper....

Pics of the outcome are a must!

Anyone here do airsoft? a hell of a lot of fun. zombie games in abadoned military tunnels overnight are prob my favourite games I've taken part in so far

Yeah, I've definitely seen some awesome ones, but this seems like a good place to start. I wouldn't mind to IG or commissar or something. Not sure about Space Marine, although I do think it would be cool to go all out and do a bike as well.

I think orlocks/escher would look good with a bug eye goggles and boxy muzzle respirator, something like mortal combat subzero mask but less curvy and more industrial... maybe a bit like the lower half of Starlords mask

I see no problem with males cosplaying escher. If you have an issue with it you really haven't considered the awesomeness that would be a escherian male in a society where women potentially outnumber males 1000 to 1 ;)
Whilst i don't 'cosplay' a lot of my gear is stylised with necromunda in mind much of my clothing and gear is vintage disposal as i'm a hippy who like quality, function and nostalgia. plain examples i have a military gas mask (think czech) simply cause i am a painter by trade (buildings in and out). I have the upper half of a skull as a latex mask which fits over gasmask fairly well and i keep it with gasmask bag for now until i have a chance to do something more intersting
Often i personalise my gear, tye-die, embroderary add patches etc with the focus of 'de-militarising' my look. Currently trying to find a cheap way to get a Windlass Qama here in australia so i have a carbon steel 'gladius' machete because... welll... i need one.

Agreed fully, it's very nice to "customise" (and be able to do it yourself) your own clothing. There's a pair of coveralls I have left over from my time in the army that are SO damn comfortable, I'm thinking of ways to make it more suitable to wear every day. It's biggest drawback is the lack of pockets.

Does the gasmask stop industrial fumes from paint etc, or do you have an appropriate filter connected to it? I like your style tho, of getting your own kit that you think fits best with you, instead of going with what everyone buys at Painters 'R Us.

Gas mask is used mainly for sanding and surface prep. The giant canister that hang off the side are activated charcoal/carbon. $4 each from eastern europe still sealed good for a few hours of work when i break seal. Most of the paint i work with is low fume, when spraying ceilands i have cheap goggles and a rated disposabke mask cause the tiny flecks would wreck my gasmask real quick if i didn't continously clean it before the paint dried.

I have an 85 aus airforce flight suit.. a little tight but plenty of pockets , and a west german 83 (my birth year) army mehanik coveralls that fit like they where made for me. Don't use them for work (wear white!)
In general though i shy away from olive drab or camo patterns as i dont like to look too militant. Still plenty of stuff in surplus in desert tan, beige, gray, brown etc and so long as you mix and match enough with other clothes you can lose the 'uniform' profile .

I see no problem with males cosplaying escher. If you have an issue with it you really haven't considered the awesomeness that would be a escherian male in a society where women potentially outnumber males 1000 to 1 ;)

iirc, male escher are noted as being particularly weak, pathetic, or even sickly.

so it wouldn't be *that* awesome to be an escher male (also, i lack the build completely... i always got the impression of them being kinda scrawny, and while i wouldn't ever dream of calling myself muscular, i'd say i'm too overweight to look the part :p )

hey if they want to think of me as weak and use me as a breeder my masculine ego can cope with that... dont forget in many societies women are considered weak regardless of evidence to the contrary.

Whilst i'm not a 'cosplayer' this thread got me digging out my australian flightsuit. Put it on and thought instantly thought 'This works for Vansaar'
In under 30 minutes with a quick spray of the nerf gun and gathering items scattered through my living space i came up with this.

If i took it seriousy i would pay mre attention to detail, get the weathering right etc. As it was just a quick project before i head of to work now it will stay at that.

Feel free to laugh and mock away :D
