Hi all!

Thought I'd start a thread to post my terrain efforts in...

The Pit Winch

This was meant to be an entry for a competition (maybe on Facebook, can't remember) but I ended up making it too big and also ran out of time. Still glad it's (mainly) done though. Materials include a hard drive casing, PC inside bits, wire spool, old toys, various sheet materials and the usual random bits.

The "concept sketch"! (Piling junk on more junk!)

Most detailing done on main, lower section

Lower section painting started, upper deck mainly complete

Pretty much done, just need to buy small chain for the big spool

Thought it would be best to have railings for the top level (10-11" off the table, that'd be a nasty fall!). Attached with magnets.

I'm planning on making some Fimo tentacles for the pit, or else see if I can get a plastic octopus or something.

Definitely need a special injury table for anyone that has fallen into the pit!

Gang Display

Not really terrain, but the same principles apply!

I picked up four of these really deep box frames at a car boot sale years ago... It's a bit tight for ten models, but they do fit. This could really do with some lighting as it's hard to see inside when full. Still need to do something with the outside too.

And, yeah, I need to paint my gang, but painting sucks! It's just a stepping stone to finish terrain pieces!

top marks on this lot! looks proper ace! really impressed with the paint job, i can only describe it as weathered and crisp? how ever you wanna describe it, it works really well! the floors especially, with the shiny metal and textured grime/rust.

are the tower risers air filters or lamp shades?
glad im not the only one to leave a firemans nightmare in a picture!
the display box looks like a guilders menagerie, fill it with mutants and have a freak show! (only 5 creds to see the bearded lady)

keep up the great work!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Love a good table made of upcycled junk. Just needs more descriptions! “This was a blah blah before I made it into this” like in the first post.
Fair point! I got lazy after the first one! See below for a little info on the tower...

The circular tower was a cardboard posting tube about 75mm dia, wrapped with corrugated craft card. The levels are foamboard with metallic plastic textured craft sheet stuff (a pound or two from The Range (in the UK)) for floor texture and cereal pack card for edges and some details. The yellow truss part in the first pic is from a toy crane.

Yes! I need to raid my mate's DnD monster collection!

This is the lift platform for the tower. Foamboard, cereal pack card, small motor (windings removed for weight), more toy crane and bitsbox gubbins. I tried going for a Mechanicum techno skull thing on the underside but I'm not convinced! Hopefully paint will improve it!

You make your scenery look functional, which is lacking in many sets. I love it. Well done.

Thanks Daniel! The last set of terrain I did for Necromunda was lacking in function/purpose; they were just empty platforms (which also meant bugger all cover). The stuff I'm making now is a bit more solid and thought-through. The old platforms were a quick-fix so we could get gaming on a reasonable table. Happy to take my time now that anything I make is just extra!

Slot together platforms

I made these around 6 years ago, foamboard, mounting board, cereal box card and lentils for rivets.

They were intended to tick a few boxes;

-quick(ish) to make
-cheap
-light weight (for transport)
-small volume when packed down (for transport and storage)
-had to provide decent height on the table

They're still in use, but the slots are getting a bit tatty and loose (haha) so the taller structures are getting slightly wobbly. I really just can't be bothered doing anything else with this stuff; I think I'll just use it till it dies. Hopefully by then I'll have better replacements ready.

Ex fire station (?) toy

Found a toy fire station or something in a charity shop/car boot sale for a quid. Ripped some stuff out, added bits from an old laptop, sticky tape centres, plastic beer can holder-together things (the ones Brewdog used for a while), match sticks, granny grating, corrugated card, fake scrabble tiles, cereal box card, foam board. And stuff.

I think my favourite part of this piece is that the lifts go up and down (only manually tho)!
