Deflect skill and Parry are very similar but subtly different, causing confusion.

    Deflect skill and Parry are very similar but subtly different, causing confusion.

    Options:

    Add clarification to Deflect skill that it is different to a Parry.
    Re-word Deflect skill to work as a Parry.

    The skill, though worded and named differently, was 'Parry' in the ORB.

    I like it as a different thing... stops a juve with a sword negating someones whoes worked for a skill straight off the bat. But I am not overly invested one way or other

    I don't have a particularlystrong view either, but it would be simpler if it were just a regular parry.

    Can anyone remember why it was changed? And, indeed, why parries were changed (to only re-rolling a dice that's higher than your own)?

    It was felt that the skill ‘parry’ should be made more distinct from a weapons ability to parry. The issue was people with a commonly available sword rolling a six and forcing their opponents to re-roll their five or four in the hopes of them rolling a fumble. This is pretty powerful and could see huge swings in combat scores thanks to a relatively cheap weapon.
    So it was decided to nerf the sword and make it only parry a roll that is higher. This caused a problem with the ‘parry’ skill though, as the skill didn’t need nerfed, just the weapon ability. So it’s name was changed to ‘deflect’ to make it distinct from the parry rule.
    The end result is-

    Parry- force an opponent to re-roll a combat die higher than yours

    Deflect- force an opponent to re-roll ANY combat die.

    I think that Deflect and parry stay the way they currently are.

    I would keep them as seperate things as well. Perhaps with the clearer wording.

    Balancing-wise I think that nerfing Combat skills is a step in the wrong direction. And changing it to just parry, would make my H2H gang worse.
    I do not have an issue with the current wording, but if someone feels that it is problematic, and can come up with a better wording, then no harm is done.
