So, my friend has a group of friends that get together ever Monday night and play.. something. They've been on a BattleFleet Gothic kick lately and after some serious thought (and a bit of cajoling from my friend) I'm going to give it another go after an almost 25-year long hiatus.

The worst part was trying to figure out which fleet I wanted to play. Originally, I did Eldar and Space Marines. But having done them already I wanted to try something new. No one in the group is playing Imperials, and I really didn't give them a chance before, so I'm getting together a small (1000-1500 point) Gothic fleet as outlined below.

- Emperor battleship
- Overlord battlecruiser
- Dictator cruiser
- Gothic cruiser
- Firestorm frigate x3
- Sword frigate x3
- Cobra destroyer x3

It's nice to have friends with 3D printers! One of them is printing up my fleet, templates, tokens, everything I'm going to need to play and not charging me a thing. Once I get them and start working on them, I'll post pictures in my painting thread. Now the issue is what colors to paint them?

Also, how does everyone store their ships? I remember having a hard time trying to find something decent to hold them. Any advice on what type of case to use?

Heya, cool cool. Welcome back to BFG.

That's a solid Gothic fleet. Bit heavy on the carriers for my doing but nothing wrong with that. Make sure to give the Overlord the targeting matrix. Makes it so much better.

And yeah, 3D printing helped the hobby (and even without there are several great webshops for physical miniatures as well). Storing: display, when transporting a big lunch box lol

As for the display case I have two really old ones. And it is just really annoying IKEA removed their simple display cabinet. It was perfect for miniatures. So, I'm also looking for a good replacement.

Yep, 3d printers are great, I printed fleets for @Siren's knife and @Therobot1273 and recently a marine fleet myself, much easier than cleaning mould lines off my original metals/resin.
Get a few more cruisers and some light cruisers to allow you to swap your fleet around easily to find your own play style.
Do you have a colour scheme in mind?

@horizon I'm retired Navy so carriers are kind of a thing for me.

@radulykan that is the plan to expand my fleet. But for now, I think this will be sufficient for me to use to get back into the game and relearn the rules. No firm scheme as of yet, just a few ideas bouncing around in my head: classic Gothic green and white, blue and yellow, and gray with an undetermined color.
