N18 Do 2023 rules override House of books?

In that instance, the VS kit comes with 2 archaeotechs and 4 grav cutters, so fully possible to put an archeo on a cutter.
That was my point three. Go back to the original point one. 😉

Because GW insist on sillynameum for things, I’ve no idea what’s being referred to there.

(I mean we can model anything as anything. The AM/Wrecker kit comes with jump boosters, so we could glue one on an AM - wasn’t what was intended though)

Can your Champs or Specialist Champ have a hoverboard in their House book rules?

If yes. Ok. If no, perhaps restrict it to the prospects only.

You have multiple fighter cards for a reason.

Plus let’s not anyone bring up Ash Wastes rules if you’re not playing an AW game - I’m anticipating someone bringing that up because I think the grav boards can be used as a sort of vehicle in the AW.

I do love a modelling project (Arms Masters are pretty big, might need to use a Stormboy jet pack for scale).

Yup, the Neotek grav-cutters are different to the Ash Wastes Grav Cutters in that they can be used in the underhive but the Ash Wastes equivalent can't- the callout box on page 94 of Ruins of Jardain is explicit about it, along with the notion that the Neoteks gain the Mounted condition...would be neater if they just said they hit a switch on their cutters when they go outdoors and thus Ash Wastes Grav Cutter rules apply.

So you can have a promoted-to-champ former Neotek riding their grav cutter in the underhive and out in the Wastes (with a change to mounted rules once stepping outside) while their fellow champion-from-creation comrades have to step off their Ash Wastes Grav Cutter variants the moment they hit the underhive as they're using outdoor-only versions of the tech.

But how does this interact with other rules? Can we have a JB Champ with a Heavy Stubber?
Well having a rapid fire heavy recoil machine gun blasting away while flying a jetpack sounds perfectly bonkers and Necromunda to me
A JB Arms Master with Cyber-Mastiff? How does that work? How does the dog keep within 3” of its master when its master can now potentially jump 12” - twice! Including over huge gaps and up to high ledges with no nearby ladders or other access.
Well, they just didn’t think about that.
OF course they didn't think. What did you expect?
However both the Booster and puppies count as wargear and the fighter has Tools of the trade so you could if you are being sensible (This is Necromunda you stop that right now!) have a fighter card with the booster for zooming around and another with the dog for releasing the hounds.
Or just keep boosting on ahead and ignore your pet. It does not have to stay within 3". It would trigger a Nerve test to avoid being Broken. When it then runs as fast as it can to try and catch up with the jump booster master (again a suitably bonkers Necromunda style thing)
How to fix it?
A few potential answers.
  1. Don’t be a dick.
Just a soild life rule. (y)
  1. Any unremovable equipment from Gang Fighter(x) fighters is restricted to their fighter cards which are transferred over. You can move Gang Fighter (x) weapons/wargear from cards to Gang Hierarchy (x) cards but not vice-versa. This excludes unremovable equipment, which has to stay on the legacy cards. You cannot move GH(x) only equipment/weapons/wargear to the legacy GF(x) cards.
Some argument there
  1. Use appropriate models.
This was probable just a ploy by GW to make you buy more models...
(I have magnetised the back of all my Orlocks, Ogryns and Goliaths so they can have backpacks or jump boosters/ jetpacks to represent Grapnel launchers. The Wreakers work perfectly well as models without the Jump booster and can be distinct Greenhorns and some detachable jet packs fit on the back of other so it works quite well. I use some Legionary Hunter Pattern Jump Packs from Kromlech. They Work quite well)
(The evolution of the Jetpack)

  1. Really, really try not to game the system because the writers use the terms “Equipment” and “Wargear” seemingly interchangeably and make no distinction between built-in items you can’t remove and purchasable items from that fighters list.
To be honest in a single campaign it is hard to get such a Prospect to the superhuman standards where this would actually break the game.

I assume "twice" by Overseer. There is that bounty hunter Freikstorn Strix who was the current incarnation of Necromundas first rendition of a Jump pack/ jet pack combining a Drop rig, Grave Chute and Grapnel launcher rather than a custom bit of kit for him so the option for a 12" move was always there for fighters with access to Wargear even just with the Grapnel.

Needs some simplification but basically, the unmovable stuff is stuck on the card(s) you had before you upgraded.

Well… possibly. That’s most likely GWs MO at any given time.

Saying that, you should have some Champ models in the basic gang box and Arms Masters come in the same box as the Wreckers (and dogs).

I do like a modelling project but at some point (assuming your campaign lasts long enough - I’ll come back to that) Jump Packs/Surfboards etc become a bit less special if everyone has one. At that point they should just go back to classic rules and just let you buy it.

To be honest in a single campaign it is hard to get such a Prospect to the superhuman standards where this would actually break the game.
Which why I think their cycle system is there - it’s to stop anyone getting too powerful. The fact that one gang still can run away with the campaign anyway quickly shows that it’s still an issue - so keep your campaigns short!!

Just hold the puppy in your hands .
A little encumbering perhaps… 🤣

Same for all prospects to champion status.
Maybe do it organically over a dozen campaigns.
Hopefully you have a house rule that splits out the upgrade costs to allow you to hire them for a reasonable cost.

We tried 10% of upgrade costs (round up to nearest 5xp) for hiring and full cost for underdog bonuses. Worked pretty well and encouraged return fighters/"splinter gangs".
