Hello guys,

I visited my local GW a couple of days ago the first time in 2022 and discovered the new Dungeon Bowl box. I played this back in the day so fond memories immediately flared up in my mind. Intrigued I grabbed the box, turned it around to inspect the price tag and quickly put it back into the shelf as I am NOT paying 140 Euro for that. Nice try, Gee-Dubbs!

However some of you might have bit the bullet to pay for this. So how does it play? Have you already established a league? Please share your experiences.

On google you can get it for 112€. Since you are using euros that must mean you are here on the mainland. Where are you living? Have you checked out the Deutomunda thread that I am shamelessly promoting?

Germany.

I think there won´t be a Dungeon Bowl experience for me after all because I am pretty busy building a desert board and desert terrain for two different scales. One scale will be used for proper Ash Wastes/Necromunda and the other scale will be for Car Wars (Matchbox) in which the gang members chase each other with vehicles. Why another scale? On a hunch the shoehorned vehicle rules for Ash wastes will probably suck so I am taking the action to a different level. Should I am right on the money on this then I won´t even need to buy the Ash Wastes box. Nevertheless the whole new setting gave me the motivation to build a plethora of new terrain tiles and even paint miniatures which had been left sitting in procrastination hell.

In addition to that Ash Wastes/Necromunda will be better suited to a single-player game in comparison to Dungeon Bowl. Even before the pandemic it was difficult to teach/recruit new people to play Blood Bowl.

It is amazing how much time and money I DON'T spend on other hobbies. So, Dungeon Bowl was an easy, affordable purchase.

How does it play? It can play quickly, or drag on. It can/will be radically different each game. So many variables. So many options. So many heartaches. And, ONE brilliant, or lucky game ending event. NO two games are the same. It will reward better play, but fate plays a big part. To be sure, I've never NOT enjoyed a Dudgeon Bowl game.

That said, we learned after the first game to have at least three corridors to get across the map. Or, it plays like LA's I-405 at rush hour (or heck, often any damn hour). A jammed up corridor and grinding it out. So. the more room to maneuver the more fun. This goes especially for 3 or 4 players (BTW, Multi-Player is just ridiculously fun).

Despite my high praise, have not tried a DB league. Probably wont. OK, definitely wont. Don't know anyone as enthusiastic about DB (or any other BB variant as me). Plus, me thinks DB is just a bit too erratic and luck dependent to really build a league around. Y(DB)MMV.

I´m still kinda clueless about Dungeon Bowl, I should maybe check it out.. But only play greenskins, can they play DB?

Sevens on the other hand..

DB uses teams called "Colleges." There are 8, and each is a mix/mash of various BB teams. Which is kinda cool! But, you could use a straight up BB team like Orcs.

Orcs in DB play on College of Metal teams alongside Black Orcs, Goblin Bruisers, Human Linemen and Blitzers, Imperial Bodyguards and Khorne Bloodseekers. I run a College of Beasts all-furry team of a Minotaur, 4 Khorngor, 5 Gor and 2 Werewolves.

I kinda want to adjust my advice. The new/current price of Dungeon Bowl ($178) is probably enough to make purchase, no longer a no brainer. It's not a must have, and unless you plan on playing a bunch (which is up to your pals, to be honest), or want the included sprues...caveat emptor. I think one CAN put a price on fun.

But, that said, I'm old. I remember when the Tooth Fairy left a quarter, instead of $5 dollars.

Dang, this thread got me jonesing for a DB game. Busted it out last eve, Colleges of Life vs Death. Had the usual amount of mayhem and fun. Opponent opened the first casket with a Wardancer. Yep, it blew up in his face. Pieces of Elf all over the place. Hard fought struggle, won by yours truly. Wish I played it more often. I blame my gaming buddies, what with their stupid lives and such.

And, another thing...oops, my Boomer freak flag is lying high. Most DB games are mostly filled with whacky mayhem. So much so, while enjoyable as heck, they don't inspire desire to play them in a league or tourney (yes, Y(DB)MMV). Or, so I think/thought. But, this latest DB game between he and me, two well-seasoned (maybe, overly seasoned) BB rivals was played with the intent to maximize success by minimizing the whacky. Still fun and at times goofy. But, in such a way that skill triumphed-ish over mayhem (so, I won!). Methinks, maybe DB could indeed may be league worthy (or, vice versa).

I like taking it more fun that overly serious.. Much more chill than I was 25 years ago.. And I only play Orcs or Orks in any game - except Escher actually..
Orks and Orcs just makes me play with the right, chill attitude..

Blood Bowl, et al., is the one game I obsess over the strategy and tactics. Not talking table flipping. Just trying to play my best-est (OK, I match my play to my opponent's skill and experience; NEWBS are friends, NOT foes). Which makes BB/DB/BB7's/GB/SB/BeachB my favorite games (in that order).

I really love the amateur-feel of sevens and smaller teams.. Desperate Measures.. :D

Damn, need some BB in my life now, long since.

Tried that DB Life and Death thing again. Different opponent. My 22 year old son/BB league nemesis. But, this was just for fun. And, fun it was. A compact dungeon I copied from a YouTube channel (picture is from Bonehead's YT, NOT our game).

The dungeon works well. Room to maneuver; few choke points. We did not use rules for the rooms (kept it quick and dirty). Despite Life's speed, Death has more punch. Life's trees are immovable objects, but don't move much (both mine took root). So, Death kinda had free reign over the dungeon. We used 3 balls, and darn Death ended up with all of them. Oh, the unhumanity!
