Hey, how do you play Chaos Fane from the Dark Uprising campaign?
Lets say I gain a Helot at the start of the campaign week. It then says that: "Equipment that is not part of the fighter´s basic cost must be purchased at the normal cost, or supplied from the gang's stash."

I read this as me having to pay for whatever gear the model comes with, but a friend pointed out that you can't actually 'purchase' equipment except during the post-battle sequence.

I kinda agree with the wording, though it could be argued that "purchase at the normal cost" is different to "purchase normally"?

It feels a bit weird if any new cultist gained can't be given any gear, except what I happen to have in the stash, since wysiwyg is kinda important in this game.

So how do you guys play it?

You also normally only recruit fighter's at certain times as well. So Chaos Fane is already proving to be an exception to the rules.

The way it's worded I would go with you. This is not part of the standard post game rules of hire fighter then distribute equipment.
But
A case for following gang composition rules and equipping your fighter like you would when creating a new gang.

Not played this campaign myself so I to am curious as to how many other's view it like your friend.

I've played Necromunda for a long time, and never cared "when" you can buy anything. A fighter is recruited? Great, buy some weapons. I find the post-battle steps over-complicated and the result is cases like the one described here.

I play it as standard recruitment. You're not 'buying' him gear, per say, you're just paying for what that dude came to the cult with. So, generally, only House List availability for that.
