Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago my buddie ash and I declared that it was high time we made gangs and got involved in the glorious, manic bloodshed that is necromunda. We have two other friends who we have managed to convince to get involved. One will be orlocks I forget the other.
My gang - The Skullions, are house delaque. Im using chaos cultists with countless and constant weapon conversions.
Ash - Van Saar, were a good starting point for him as he plays eldar and with some different (probably catachan) heads, his gang will be up and running.
Once ash has got his models together I will start to do some battle reports and scenario updates. We are also blessed to own some really nice scenery pieces (some home made by yours truly) and a nice gaming board.
I will also take some pics of the gangs etc.
So far in the couple days worth of gaming we've done since starting, a fair amount of carnage has occurred (mostly toward me) and some interesting trading post shenanigans. Here's a quick overview of what has happened so far...
Day 1:
We decided to start off with a simple scavenging scenario with 5 objectives. We played on a small board, just 2x2ft as we wanted it to be up close and personal.
It started well with both gangs covering ground in the first turns, one of ashes juves daring to run headfirst in to the fray, grabbing an objective and retreating hastily back in to cover with the loot. The rest of the gang taking up position to make advances on the other objectives next turn.
I took a leaf from ashes book and sent my only juve (Stabby John) to poke his head out from behind a giant old pipework and use his whole movement allowance to dart in to the middle and fetch an objective, promptly turning round and ducking back behind the same pipe. One objective each... Turn one over... Game on.
In the following turns I moved my guys (and girl) in to some ruined building to try and get a good shooting angle on some of ashes guys that were in the open and I could not believe it when one of his juves popped round the corner and floored my gang leader Crowbar. After a short exchange of fire and my heavy with a flamer (crazy mick) failing to wound his gangs leader my guys failed a bottle test and that was that. One piece of treasure each, and a wounded ego. Didn't seem too bad. However what would come next was tragic/brilliant.
After allocating experience points etc we decided the fate of those who had been taken down via the serious injury Table. Oh joy. Crowbar my gangs leading light was captured by ashes gang. He wanted a ransom of 400c which I scoffed at and declared that I'd rescue him.
I wasn't so confident once we'd taken the chance to roll on the rare item table, ash receiving a power sword and other goodies which were soon equipped on his gang leader.
The rescue mission was almost a success with the majority of his gang being dispatched with stealthy long shots and surprise attacks but it was not enough. With only two dudes left standing the battle was flipped on its head and all my guys went down. MVP for that mission was one of ashes juves called Else, with two attack dice she just kept pummelling my guys till they cried. Even crazy mick cowered (he got his revenge later). One of my gangers, Ghost, scoring a really cool hit from ground level through a building window and nailing a sentry 3 stories up across the board.
So, licking their wounds and their heads held in shame, Crowbar was duly sold as a slave after the failed rescue. Oh well easy come easy go. My guys also receiving a plethora of serious injuries; a few partial deafness, a couple of old battle wounds, crazy mick getting the brunt (quite fittingly) after being butchered by ashes gang leader with a power sword. Poor old mick rolled multiple injuries which were; old battle wounds, partial deafness and Horrible scars.
Got some nice skill upgrades.
Time to recruit a new gang leader and go again.
Day 2:
With a new gang leader and some reinforcements for my guys, I chose the ambush scenario. We had a long and narrow map for this battle with really tight and high ruined buildings one end, tapering down to a ground floor industrial scape at the other end.
After ash had set up his 3 in the dead centre it was my turn to deploy. With my new reinforcements my gang now numbered 10 (still way off his gang rating though). I placed ghost in the 3 story building at the top end of the map where he had a good view of the 3 ambushees. With him was new heavy stubber wielder Eli. Mick and the others in tow ready to pounce at ground level in much closer quarters.
With his gang leader and a few others popping up near my board edge for a counter attack my plan quickly came unraveled and the battle descended into a bloodbath.
My new ganger Lurtz rather hilariously popping up at a window and nailing a juve in the face with a shotgun 3 times before he was out of action (damn you medi packs).
Heavy stubber jammed after its first turn firing.
Ashes gutsy (no longer juve) Else charged mick, saw his horrific scars then proceeded to receive the but of a flamer in the face.
All in all it was a very even fight but my guys just bottling it which was a shame.
An absolute raft of experience for my gang with many of them scoring multiple wounds, lurtz jumping 2 levels straight away. Clover, now has 3 of the agility skills under her belt. However Doc bit the dust permanently R.I.P
Two of ashes serious injuries were taken captive by me! One of Which I auctioned back to him so I could afford... Dun dun dunnn... A one in a million heavy bolter that I managed to roll on the rare trading table. Mick also now has two wounds which adds to his rather fitting aura and abilities.
The next game was a rescue mission this time I was the captor. It was a tragedy, with my reinforcements not showing up when I needed them. I got flattened and two of my serious injuries were deaths!! And one of them was my new gang leader!!?!!
The Skullions new gang proverb; easy come easy go.
With yet another gang leader in to sip the poisoned chalice, I decided he needed better gear than his predecessors. So I opted for a bolt pistol and chainsword. I then managed to get my grubby mits on a power fist! Which I issued to the new leader (Kreuger), the chainsword I gave to lurtz.
One thing is for certain, necromunda is my favourite format of 40k possibly even the whole hobby. Yes I think so. I love fishing through my bitz box to find things that suit and create some really unique models!
Plus it's as mad as it is fun (like me baby.
More to come....
