Some rackets give a free weapon or piece of equipment when controlled e.g. The Cold Trade “one member of the gang may have a single item from the Xenos Weapons section of the Black Market for free.

Some gangers and Juves have limited selections from the trading post and/or black market e.g. Wyld Runners can only purchase pistols from the Trading Post.

Does the Cold Trade circumvent the later rule? Could I equip a Wyld Runner with a Hrid Fusil, for instance.

RAW fighters are restricted on the type of weapons they can carry (close combat, pistol, basic, special, and heavy).

I would stick to the limit on weapon types, but allow the weapons from the black market as it is essentially just a second trading post.

My House Of Blades says, "An Escher Wyld Runner may only be equipped with weapons chosen from this list, or from the Pistols and Close Combat Weapons sections of the Trading Post or the Black Market."

..Oh, I see. It's not about which market it's from, the problem is that the Hrid Fusil is a Special weapon...

I think I would have a problem with a fighter who is supposed to be restricted to only Pistols and Close Combat weapons showing up with a Special weapon.

They've said before that "free" means you don't have to pay for it. It does not mean that you can ignore the rules for the thing.

The way I read it:
  • Fighters who only have access to weapons from their own list (gangers and juves from the House of ___ books) cannot equip a free weapon that is not on their list, regardless of its weapon type.
  • Fighters who can equip weapons from the TP/BM can equip any weapon from anywhere as long as its weapon type is one they are allowed to use.
As an exception, their personal list may have weapons of a type they can't normally use (for instance, a Goliath prospect can use a Storm-welder even though they can't use other special weapons)

Those exceptions are really ugly and imposed by the modelling department. Prospects can't really have special weapons, but hey, someone made a cool model for it, so then make an exception for that single weapon because it comes packaged like that in the box... I don't like it, but that's the name of the game now.

personally I think prospects like juves of old should keep to no single item being worth more than 25 creds.

Also, regarding the OP, by the rules even if you get a free weapon that you normally cant buy you still have to follow the rules for weapon type. If you pick a special weapon you can only give it to guys who can carry special weapons.
