the mineral count in tapwater remains in drinkable tapwater and can vary wildely
(one off the things one learns when distilling runs in the family...)
I'll see what works but what I picked up:
rehydrate:
-tapwater can work in limited amounts but the mineral count and micro-organisms are counter-productive
-industrialised ethanol can thin the water and kills the micro-organisms
(to kill them you'd need to make it 15% alc degree so perhaps 2 drops is on the low side for a paint pot? you'd need 2 drops of 94° alc for 8 water drops)
-bottled demineralized* water could be safer both for the minerals and the beasties
thin paints:
-the original chemical diluter is used in cleaning products (but I'd have to check if that's still the case)
-acrylic flow improver or it's (possibly distinct) GW counterpart lahmian medium can work too
* sometimes used to clean out the coffee machine, etc...
Are there any differences for rehydrating inks and paints?
Slightly off topic, but this discussion reminds me we were meaning to investigate water filters.
Tap water can have various things in it, depending where you live. I'd suggest distilled if you have ready access to it. As it happens, we use a dehumidifier quite a bit in the winter, so that's a handy source of water (though I usually end up pouring it away).
A bottle of distilled water is 3,5 euros here, compared with hobby supplies it's fairly cheap (for dutch/belgian locals they have it at Albert heyn stores)
and they also have it at pharmacies... once had a photography school that needed 20? litres of it for analog developments
demineralised water is even cheaper, one euro for 5 liters
I was meant to be working on Space Hulk but I needed to add a 3rd rank to my chaos warriors for Old World. Also needed a centaur for a Mordheim campaign we're playing just now. Better get back to the terminators I guess.
Welcome to the first submissions thread of 2025! Where we encourage finishing models akd showing them off. The most important rule is, only post once in the submission thread, and only with your finished models of the relevant month. The rest of the rules are here...
@The_Toenail I love those 15mm elves you posted in the submission thread. Makes me want to dig out my old Warmaster units, I did see a lot of them whilst looking for my full sized models.
Is there still much interest in Warmaster? I found a whole bunch of my old stuff (Chaos, Lizardmen, Tomb Kings) while spring cleaning and wasn't sure what to do with it.
