N18 Gadgeteer and hot shot

Hi all, quick question - van saar archeotek......lasgun from the TP .....gadgeteer to replace plentiful with e.g. pulverise, and then add a hotshot pack for the S and AP improvement, and drop the ammo roll to a 4+.......what did people think? Or does the removal of plentiful by gadgeteer preclude the hotshot pack from being used? It feels ok to me on the grounds that I still ultimately get the two nerfs of losing plentiful and degrading the ammo roll, and the buff from e.g. pulverise come from a skill that I have chosen to take over other options such as munitioneer i.e. I have "paid" for the skill........nothing in the hotshot rules says it us contingent on the plentiful trait being present, rather this more by virtue of it being applied to a las weapon.......cheers!
 
You apply the Hot Shot to the weapon first which changes the weapon profile to S4 AP-1 Ammo 4+ and you lose the Plentiful rule. That will be the default weapon profile for the gun. Unlike shotgun, autoguns, and bolter special ammo it changes the base profile not adds another.
With Gadgeteer it states "if this fighter is in the starting crew, prior to the first turn, they may modify the weapons traits of any weapon that has the Plentiful trait".
A hot shotted lasguns/pistol does not have the Plentiful trait anymore so Gadgeteer can not be applied.
You have your roster first (with the modded lasguns) then you show up for battle.
It is possible to Gadgeteer a hot shotted gun though but that requires the Weaponsmith skill as well. That skill is not keyed to modifying the weapon prior to the first turn so is baked into the weapons stats before gadgeteer can take affect.

(As an aside also as Gadgeteer states "starting crew" it also precludes it's use in games were said fighter is a Reinforcement).
