I’ve heard the common knowledge tends to be boys over toys, but what do you guys think is a good gang size to shoot for?

I play Orlocks if that matters – my thought is 10, because you can start to rack up the xp and wargear. Going much over 10 means you start to really chance not getting your champs/leader with random selection games. You also are spreading out which gangers get their xp when you start getting up to 7/8 of them.

What do you guys think though?

I typically start with 6 in a gang and tend to recruit a couple juves after the first game, after that point it's all toys with a couple of flesh puppets if I need them lol

Having lower numbers just means you have to use whatever terrain you have to cling to for as much Los denial as you can.

Out of curiosity how much terrain do you usually play with? That kind of thing should also influence how many guys you think about starting with, if you have a sparse set up more dudes is a good idea so you can keep some momentum, if it's pretty dense... How low do you dare go is the real question then :p

I have been thinking 12 is the magic number. 6 gangers allows u to get 4 champs and a brute, plus the leader.
Cos 10 is often the most u can hope to bring, u have 2 spare gangers. Like they said above, that covers u for any MNGs plus u can have varied ganger loadouts to specialise your crew for each scenario...

But to start, I think 8 is the magic number, with cash spare to purchase champ 3 immediately after game 1...

This matches my experience as well. I usually try for 8-9 to start with a goal of reaching 12 once things are underway.

Brutes are hangers on, so don't count towards the 50% ganger rule.
