General Necromunda 2017 Discussion

EDIT: By the way, has anyone come up with a clever idea for using that combi bolter without the jacket? I'm thinking of just scraping the jacket bits off the shoulder and maybe sculpting some piece of armour over it?

There was a set of lasgun arms that looked like they might be a good fit if you carve everything on the backside but the hand off. I haven't tried it yet but since I'd like a combi-bolter on one of my Champs it's something I'm gonna look into. Too bad it's hard to start with both a chem-thrower and a combi-bolter without running out of cool stuff to give your leader.

Hello everyone :) Just joined, got my new Necromunda goodies and thought it was as good a time as any to make a post.

First up I haven't played a game yet. These opinions and observations are from a purely theoretical view point.

Very happy with the new model looks and flair. They still have the old hallmarks but now have background to explain them and add to them. The Escher's lack of males and their chem production, Goliath size and propensity for chains and harnesses', Van Saar's technical expertise and dress and how the gangs interact with each other is a nice touch. Changing gang fights to be more of a proxy war for the houses instead of borderline criminal activity is also niffty. New rules are also a nice step up. Some extra depth is welcome and I was worried a lot of the old things like territory effects, wargear and other options would be hard hit. As it is most things came out fairly intact but a little slimmer. All in all a very nice update and worth the years and years of waiting. But. After spending hours going through the rules and looking at potential gang lists and how they will develop I have been left with some gripes and some questions. Like most GW products it has its issues. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions or if I've simply missed something that explains some of these (like somewhere in the 200 pages of the previous thread lol).

Firstly GW really needs to hire a proof reader. To have a officially re-launched and supported product line and then not having simple errors and inconsistencies picked up before the final print is sad. It's also far too common with GW rules.

Modeling choices. Poor Goliath players. Goliath's scale is going to pose major problems for some weapon options, although I suspect SM + Orc weapons may prove useful. I have a feeling normal IG/GSC/CC weapons would look pretty tiny in a Goliath's hands lol. Imho the Escher box has so many more options its sad to then look at the Goliath spue. Even if the Escher options might not seem that well represented the worst I feel I'd have to do is cut some pistols carefully and swap them over. Power swords I'm happy to use IG command squad power swords and they can easily be cut and glued (not a fan of the stiletto style sword), even the shock whip can simply be chopped off at the hilt. The sniper rifle in those command squads is also a near perfect fit in regards to scale and hand placement if rules for sniper rifles ever come out. I also have a stupidly large amount of autopistols from GSC's that should fit nicely if I want. The Escher leaders jacket and Bolter combi weapon is one of the few things that is awkward from a novice converting viewpoint for Escher. On a related note I was making a Escher gang out of Dark Elder before new Necromunda was announced and the scale is near exact.

I've got a bunch of gripes on House stat and skill balance and the state of the weapons, weapon lists and availability but those are probably best dropped in one of the other forums along with my musings and questions about Escher gang load outs. Plus this post would have been...longer, way longer.

Hope that wasn't too much of a chore to read through. :)

I was thinking something similar might work too. So far I've left out the chem thrower until I can figure out how to mount the tanks on her back.

Funny, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the model. Have to do something with her, now empty, hand to do as well.

It was sounding like GSC and Chaos Cultists might be getting a WD article this winter? Can anyone confirm that?

Would be nice since you'd pretty much have 5 gangs out the door at that point.

I thought I read spring (March-May 2018), meaning after Orlocks but before the other Houses. I can understand that these guys have models already, but it still seems a bit annoying (to me) that they get rules before half the basic Houses get a proper release let alone the traditional outlanders.

In a deep rules analysis, I noticed autogun and bolter are rapid fire (1), just like the heavy stubber. Given the reduced consequences of a failed ammo roll, I really like the idea of combination bolter/grenade launcher. My tactics involve 3 model fire teams, ideally one of which is carrying a "heavy" weapon. Van Saar of course.

It also appears GW left range maximum at 24 for weapons that aren't heavy weapons. Balance and thematically necessary as the game terrain implies tunnel fighting... Not sure.

I also noticed body armor is much more prevalent than in previous editions of the game. This actually makes sense...

I’m curious regarding Juves and body armor.

Do they ever acquire it? Is it bestowed upon reaching champion status?
They don't aquire anything but a title, new skills list, the ability to equip different equipment and more costly advancements upon becoming a Champion. You can buy an armoured unershirt for them but as of yet there is no trading post that allows you to purchase any other armour.

Hmm the Nomads from the old rules did have a rule that you had to get one specific heavy weapons or melta-bombs/grenades, one thing that made it hard to make a decent gang, I wonder if that is going to change or stay the same.

Warhammer Community has next weeks pre-orders up, nothing Necro obviously, but it does have a Blood Bowl "compendium" which is apparently the two death zone books combined with some extras. so possible that all the gang wars books will be compiled together eventually. (good if you can wait, bad if you already have all the books, worst if you have all the books and want the new content) Obviously this is just speculation and inference tho, so take it with some salt...then tequila and some lime

Except one of those auto pistols with a huge drum magazine...;)

Or one of the original Uzi style autopistols (though it should be noted that the "new" autopistol that the Eschers and GSC are using are based on the one found on the Imperial Weapon Sprue from 2nd ed or earlier).
