N18 Genestealer Cult roster guidance, please

I'm a newcomer to Necromunda, playing in my first campaign five games in as Enforcers gang, but preparing a Genestealer Cult (The Cult of the Rusted Savior) for our next campaign. Was hoping someone could give it a peek, see how it looks, and give me some advice.

The lasgun Neophytes, grenade launcher Neophyte and longlas provide covering fire while the Alpha, Aberrant, shotgun and autogun neophytes form the spearhead. The infiltrated grenade launcher Acolyte is there to further help disrupt and cause chaos to draw attention from the spearhead.

Now, aside from general thoughts and advice, my main uncertainty is the skill for both Acolytes. For the sniper I've bounced between Overwatch and Infiltrate. But this guy is meant for covering fire, so I think Overwatch might work better. As for the grenade launcher Acolyte I'm really not sure at all. Infiltration seems a good idea to kinda increase the amount of table I can be suppressing, but honestly I'm really unsure about that pick.

I'd appreciate any and all thoughts on this. Thank you so much.

On a separate thought, I could drop a neophyte to get a chainsword for my Alpha and replace my Abarrant's combat knives with chainswords.

Its a decent list. Infiltrate on the grenade launcher should give you tactical options, just resist the urge to be suicidal with him. Acolytes are very squishy.

I'd be inclined to drop some gear on the aberrant, add a second shotgun to your line up as you don't have a lot of S4+ ranged in the gang (just the acolyte guns) which will make Goliath a challenge.

Aberrants are tough enough to run naked in your first game, then you can splurge on paired chainswords (or better, paired shockwhips) for him

Yeah, keeping the grenade launchers (Acolyte and Neophyte) back for suppressive fire, along with the lasgun and longlas. None of them are charging in anywhere. Good advise, so I made a few changes. Stripped down the Aberrant, added another Neophyte with a shotgun. That allows a wrecking ball group of Alpha and Aberrant, an assault group of two shotgunners and two autogunners, support fire from the longlas, lasgun and neophyte grenade launcher, and disruption from the Acolyte grenade launcher. Do you think Overwatch is better for the longlas, or would he be better Infiltrated too?

Thanks again for the help!

I mean if you wanna be mean, infiltrate demolition charges.

Also, your abberrant is desperate for the ability to take skills, so if you are at all able, you should have him start as a specialist ganger instead of one of your neophytes.

I wish I could, but I don't think GSC get a specialist at gang creation, unless I'm missing things. The Neophyte entry states "When the gang is created one Neophyte Hybrid can be armed with a Special Weapon. During a campaign, additional Neophyte Hybrids can can also take Special Weapons as they are added." There is nothing in the Book of Ruin that states they get a free specialist. Now, I'm using the Dark Uprising book, not the main rulebook, I'm a relative noob to Necromunda, and my first/current gang is Enforcers, which have odd campaign rules to begin with, so I have almost no experience here. I also checked the gang creation rules in the FAQ, but nowhere does it say you get a free specialist.

Yeah, I 2nd that. Ask your arbitrator/group how they would like to play it, either you get a specialist at gang creation and no ability to equip later gangers with special weapons (bringing them in line with the later era gangs), or you play rules as written and get no specialist but can add many special weapons later in the campaign.

Personally I wouldnt assume you can give the aberannt the specialist role though, as it is typically normal gangers only (not juves or other types of fighters with the 'ganger' rule for the hierarchy.

Isn't it the newest one after the Book of the Outlands?
no, I think there was another box between them that had... esher and delaque maybe? I might be wrong on that though, cant really remember.

Overall though they definetly take the old pre house of books style, so even if they were released after, they are the old style that was being replaced wih hte house of books

Gotcha. Well, it's definately something I'll talk to my admin about because yeah, I do want my Aberrant unpinnable. XD

Regarding the Longlas, Overwatch is probably the most useful, Infiltrate is a good second skill as it lets you hide them up in a snipers nest at the start of the game, but its utility is dependent on the size of table you use and the amount of cover you have. So definitely a second pick and not a starting choice
