Getting back into Mordheim

So I managed to find a nearly mint copy of the Mordheim starter box for a ridiulously low price as a lucky find. With that I'm going to be getting back into playiing after a 20+ year hiatus. My son is also excited as he loved playing Mordheim as a kid and now as an adult he has money to spend on it. LOL. In fact, he paid for half of the cost.

I'm going to be using the militia models and recreate my Middenheimers, and he's taking the Skaven.. which I didn't see coming. We're planning on getting our warbands together, relearning the rules and possibly going to NEMO next year as it's normally relatively close by.

I know of Broheim and the New Mordenheimer as good resource sites, but I'm looking for sites that have minis that can be used as the originals are either impossible to find or are exorbitantly priced on the secondary market. Any suggestions that anyone has would be welcome.

And if you're in the area of Rhode Island or close by and want to get in a game let me know! I'm retired so have tons of free time on my hands. 😁

this can be relevant (or overpriced):

there are 3D printed minis themed for mordheim. Tuomas priren was involved in some of those casts.

Heresylabs:

and also er... these

It depends what warbands you want. The more generic things are easy to find in fantasy or historical sets.

Frostgrave has good options for humans - not perhaps the best for mercs, but would suit possessed cultists, zealots, etc. The gnolls could work as beastmen and the Oathmark range has dwarfs, elves, and orcs/goblins.

Wagames Atlantic have several human sets (conquistadors and/or the more recent Baron's War stuff). Their zombies (in the Pulp!) range would also suit undead.

Fireforge are mainly historical, but also have Bretonnian-types and, again, some good undead options.

(Edit: I'm not linking to sites, because I don't know where best to buy in the USA. You should be able to find stockists though. And Wargames Atlantic are US-based.)

I second everything @Ben_S says!
I’d add that there are female versions of each frostgrave kit too, so even the sisterhood is covered. I would be tempted to use the gnolls as an alternative skaven warband?
And lately iv been playing with the wargames Atlantic guard kit, and it would make an excellent mercenary crew, it’s very much in the style of the mordheim mercenary kit, minus black powder weapons, but kitbashing would be a breeze!

I look forward to seeing how you get on!

I forgot about those, but a definite nod to Mordheim. I think one of the kits even has a fish!

Thanks guys! I have some Frostgrave stuff squirrelled away that I forgot about! I'll dig it out. I'll definitely check out Wargames Atlantic as they'd probably have good stuff for the Empire warbands.

I was perusing Etsy and found a complete 3D printed Undead warband for a decent price so I ordered that. Found a nice Possessed one too that'd I'd like, but that will come later.

I posted in the Trade thread, I'm still looking for an old GW plastic wolf, some GW round shields (4-6), and possibly a Mordheim Wardogs of anyone has any of those they'd be willing to part with. Oh and a Middenheim/Knight of the White Wolf wolf cloak.

Thanks again for the replies. When I get stuff done I'll post pictures.

I saw some warhouds in the Etsy stl's I shared.
i have a few old round goblin shields (& orc shields) in my bits box but I'm European.

Which one did you find for the Possessed? i want to build a Witch Hunter warband and a Possessed Warband for me and friends to play. I found a cool Witch Hunter warband though i feel its on the more expensive side of things for 3d printed resin models.

Just adding my $0.02...

I currently have warbands for Witch Hunters, Dwarf treasure hunters, Sisters of Sigmar, Cult of the possessed, and the outlaws of Stirwood forest.

Miniatures are a mix of GW, Frostgrave, Hasslefree, Footsore, MOM, Reaper and 3d prints I found on etsy. Photos and details in my plog, links to final photos below...

Dwarves -

Sisters -

Witch Hunters, I don't have a group shot unfortunately, and the warband's warrior priest(ess) is on page 1 of the plog, some scrolling down is needed on these links -

Warband Leader -

Witch hunters -

Flaggelents -

Cult of the Possessed -

Outlaws -

I also have Aenur (easily and inexpensively picked up on ebay) -

I have a Middenheim warband planned using GW's Teutogen guard, and an undead warband in the pipeline using Gunther Larenscheld, a Von Carstein vampire, and 2 actual Mordheim "dregs" figures (ebay was useful for those)...

If you want an Ogre, Brutogg from Cursed City is a good choice (again ebay, but relatively inexpensive).

Not really sure what to use for other mercenaries or named characters (like Aenur). OG GW figures for the named characters (besides Aenur) tend to go for silly money on ebay!

Skaven can be done/expanded using current GW AoS figures, apart from Plague Censer Bearers and Gutter Runners (they seem to have been squatted), you'll have to scour ebay for those (good luck with that, I looked and gave up). I have a Skaven warband planned though, to round out my warbands from the rulebook (apart from the other human mercenary flavours), but haven't bought anything for it yet...

Hope that's inspirational/helpful.

Nice stuff! That Possessed warband especially! I'd be proud of that Mutant too.

So recreating my Middenheimers is first on my list. After that I have an Undead Warband from Punga Miniatures I should get in a couple weeks. After that:
- Ostermarks (using the Empire Militia)
- Reiklanders (Empire boxes again)
- Witch Hunters (from Punga again)
- (possibly) Possessed (from Vae Victis)
- contemplating a rebuild of my Bretonians, Dwarf Treasure Hunter and Pirate warbands

I'm also going to start gathering up materials to start making scratch built terrain again as my son said he loved the stuff I made before and is encouraging me to start again.

When I was stationed over on Guam ('99-'02) Mordheim was one of the big two games we played on the ship I was on. I have lots of fond memories and am really looking forward to playing once again. FYI the other game was BattleFleet Gothic. The gang HATED me and my Eldar fleet. I'm looking a bit at maybe restarting BFG too, but one thing at a time. :)

I look forward to seeing your warbands.

I'm still yet to ever play it but partway through building a Possessed warband at the moment (a mix of GW and Fireforge bits) and have loads of minis set aside to kitbash some Mercs and Witch Hunters in the future. Hopefully one day I'll actually get around to playing.

I’ve considered Mordheim too, especially once I found the HiveScum podcast and found out they’re the ones who do NEMO (and Under the Dice Fest) in Massachusetts.

I’ve collected a couple of models for my warband, and have a few more in mind. Unfortunately I can’t find a list to match my idea…

@Tiny Thanks! I look forward to seeing your Possessed too!

@Punktaku we aren't that far from each other. Figure out a warband and we can play! :) And I'm seriously contemplating attending NEMO next year. And I didn't know about "Under the Dice Fest". I'll keep an eye on that too. Thanks!

@Malevolent Pink Cat Those... are... AWESOME! They took the original Witch Hunters minis and made them Halflings! :ROFLMAO: I would have preferred a Pug to a Chihuahua, but whatever.

under the dice fest is a 40k thing if I remember right. With live bands and tattoo artists.

Once I found out about NEMO it’s been whispering in the back of my mind. Same with NOVA down south, but that’s 40k and I can’t cross the Mason-Dixon Line.

Hmm. Let me know the idea, and I might be able to help with warband list sorting through. There are quite a few warbands published over the years, both in-house and third party.

Osterlanders might fit conceptually with Valkyries and a Wizard (priest of taal). Russ Norse imagery and theme for skills and weapons, and a "nature wizard" in the priest of Taal. And of course the Norse Explorers are solidly Valkyrie Norse with a werewolf instead of a wizard, but every possibility of pulling in a wizard hired sword (being a human warband and not chaos, there are some Hired Swords and Dramatis Personae that would fill that role easily enough, like the Norse Shaman). Those would be my initial suggestions.
