GRAV-CUTTERS IN THE ASHWASTES

When founding a gang for an Ash Wastes Campaign, grav-cutters count as Wargear that grants the Mounted condition. However, grav-cutters may still be used in battles that do not allow Wargear that grants the Mounted condition (note this does not allow ash waste grav-cutters to be used in these battles).

So you can use them or not? The last sentence is very odd, the part in parentheses seem to say the opposite of what is not in parentheses

The hoverboards?

I remember a conversation about this but as I’m not a Van Saar player I can’t give you a definitive answer (helpful I know).

I think it goes like this though: you can use your prospects on their boards in regular games as that’s how they were intended to be used.

You cannot use boards assigned to other fighters for use in an Ash Wastes environment outside of that as they’re classed as mounts in AW.

Now… as for prospects levelling up into champions and using their boards… some say yes some no. But either way if it comes from initially being a prospect and is carried over to a champ because they upgraded then it’s still usable in the Underhive.

If you brought one for a champ directly as wargear in AW, then he can’t use it in the Underhive.

Confused? Well that’s what you get when GW gets lazy and reuses the same things to represent two different applications.

GW made grav-cutter version 1 for the new box in 2020, this was before Ash Wastes. After Ash Wastes, instead of making new miniatures for some Van Saar specific mount, they just unlocked grav-cutters to the rest of the gang. This is "Ash Wastes grav-cutters", effectively version 2. Then they mix up these as they have almost the same name. What I think they meant is the old v1 grav-cutters can be used regardless of battlefield type (as they are Van Saars prospects), but the new v2 is mount and so limited to Ash Waste battles only. Keep in mind they didn't even limit mounts to Ash Wastes in the start, it was only limited for vehicles. They later added limitation to mounts in the same way as vehicles. It's really messy.

Actually, it seems like the text is actually correct. It deals with 2 terms:
  • "Grav-cutter" (version 1)
  • "Ash waste grav-cutter" (version 2)

Let's split it apart:
  • Grav-cutters (v1) count as Wargear Mount in Ash Waste battles.
  • Grav-cutters (v1) can be used in all battles regardless of type, ash waste or underhive.
  • Ash waste grav-cutters (v2) cannot be used in underhive battles.

This means that the old/original grav-cutters can be purchased with the dedicated credits to spend on vehicle & mounts when creating a gang (this is typically a separate 400 credits, depending on campaign).

So it seems to all check out. The only problem I can see is that instead of using a term to specify Ash Waste battles (ie. where you can use vehicles & mounts), it uses the term "Ash Wastes Campaign", which is only one of several campaigns that allows for vehicles & mounts, and incidentally doesn't even include the campaign in the book. RAI seems to be Ash Wastes battles or campaigns that include vehicles & mounts). Not limited to only Ash Wastes campaign.

Haha but no. They have "grav-cutters" (v1), it has no cost, so removing it doesn't change the rating. The "Ash wastes grav-cutter" (v2) has a cost, but it's not the one prospects have. However everything would be a lot simpler and easier if they just added it as the same purchasable option to everyone, instead of dealing with this mess.

Possibly a prospect could remove/upgrade the v1 to get a v2? With insane weight on rating, but still...

Or just give another name. 😂

They made a new version so it should have had a new name yes. I think it would be much cleaner to have just a single grav-cutter and make prospects pay for it (like everyone else). That would solve the issue of free included wargear too. But of course this breaks the tenet that rules must match box content.

And yet the model designers created the models to have, for their standard sizes models so no stimmer, interchangable arm joints.
...
Seriously all the clan houses, Nomads, Enforcers, Genestealers and outcasts have the same arm joints within their range
A Wreaker toting around a Orlock heavy bolter is possible.
