A friend of mine came over the other day and introduced me to Greathelm. I can honestly say that I wish I had seen this game before I saw and bought into Pillage.
For those that haven't seen it yet - it's Kickstarter closed a bit ago - its small skirmish Medieval (only 6 figures on a side) and is played on an 8 1/2" x 11" area. Yeah, on something the size of a sheet of paper. Most people play on a 1' x 1' from what I've seen. The basic game is a group of knights on each side squaring off, but you can bring in specialty troops such as archers, etc. It also allows for mounted miniatures. Its also flexible enough in outfitting your minis for you to simulate just about any ancient time period.
The way the game is played is innovative with its initiative system. I won't go into detail but if you're interested you can see an example of play on the Greathelm Kickstarter page.
I'll definitely be playing this game, getting some minis for it and making a board and some terrain. I'll also be ordering a rule book as soon as their late pledge manager opens up.
