Hi Bit of a Newb question here. I know when throwing Grenades you have to make an ammo check each time to see if your ganger has run out. When using a grenade launcher is this the same? Or when using a grenade launcher do I just roll the ammo dice as normal and if no out of ammo result comes up I'm fine?

The reason for this is the weapon Trait 'Grenade' that is on all hand thrown grenades, but not on weapons like missle/grenade launchers.
Yep just the ammo roll like a normal weapon.
Also when reloading the grenade launcher is reloaded by a check on any of the ammo you have not just the one that triggered Out Of Ammo. (Same for other weapons with different ammo like shot guns)
Get smokes or stun rounds and you reload on a 4+.

I did think it would be waaaay less useful if it was like grenadesThis is as mentioned only applicable for 'weapons' with the Grenade trait (grenades are in a weird limbo between weapon and wargear). If you find the Grenade trait for any grenade launcher ammo (or any weapons other than strictly thrown grenades), please ignore this. GW likes to throw in mistakes like that.
