N18 Helot cults

So now that all the 'House' books are out, it feels like the gangs in the Book of Ruin are a bit outdated, with the Helot Cult being the poorest of poor relations.

Two questions:

First do you reckon the Book of Ruin will be updated?

Second, Helot cults seem to have the fewest toys - anyone have any idea how to make them unique / interesting (rather than just filling out the whole list with autoguns)?

They can be bought later on with special weapons as they predate the specialist requirement to hold them. That unlocks long rifles, nade launchers and flamers, which are all good weapons.

Also as long as you arnt playing an uprising campaign, access to the trading post means you can give them a full range of more interesting weapons.

But yes, they are hard done by on their weapon list if you are restricted to it.

LOVE the names of your gang.

Bit of a shame re: their initial weapon selection, but I guess you're right that the trading post helps give them some interesting opportunities (and don't need to worry about tech-heresy if you're already a cultist)!

I've always thought the Chaos Spawn should be more reliable, since it's pretty much the only fun, unique thing in the list. As an Arbitrator, I would tweak the rules so that it has a better chance of being included in matches, and tweak its stat generation (ie. you can reroll ~2 stats, but you must keep the second result).

Chaos used to be very unique (togeter with GSC) in that they could have a permanent psyker in the gang. That's not unique anymore as almost anyone can have it. And not sure how much fun it was as most of the wyrd powers sucked tremendously. But Psykers are getting a massive boost now, and this will also help Chaos.

Not any time soon. I was always of the suspicion that they shoved Chaos Cults and Genestealer Cults into the game because they had models you could buy and 4/6 Houses didn’t at that time!!

They’ve always felt a bit ‘poor cousin’ and the Corpse Grinders (which are basically a Khorne Cult) kinda suggested they’d go further in that direction in future.

Not really other than going all out at the Trading Post. However if they do go along with the House gang direction then it may get updated.

Interestingly the new scum box have the same arm fittings as the Genestealer Cult, so if they get a resin or plastic weapon upgrade kit so will the Genestealers by proxy.

Unfortunately for Chaos you’re limited by the 40k kit options. Unless they make a new big modular kit for them.
