So, the news of a new edition of Necromunda with accompanying plastic miniatures (mostly the miniatures, honestly) pulled me back into the hobby after a five-year break. I couldn't wait for the release so I bought myself a bunch of Raging Heroes' Jailbirds to use as Escher.

They're quite wonderful sculpts, although I'm a little worried they won't fit in well with GW models - check out the juve with a laspistol to know what I mean. Assembly was a real ***** though, tiny bits + superglue + adult hands is a bad combination.

Anyway, without further ado, let's get into the pictures. Gang leader, armed with a plasma pistol and sword, with a greenstuffed mohawk and ponytail:

Then the heavies. All three have had their shoulders bulked up a little. Otherwise the heavy stubber gal is straight out of the blister. The flamer got some scruffy crust punk -style dreadlocks, but is otherwise stock. The plasma gunner was most involved - his sun gun is made from a jailbird missile launcher, an IG plasma gun, and a pair of binoculars. I really like this model - I'd like to use it as a heavy plasma gunner, but I can't justify spending a quarter of my starting budget on a single gun, so a regular plasma it'll be. :p

Then the gangers. No fancy conversions here.

And finally, the juves.

Next up, basing and undercoating.

They look great man, looking forward to seeing come colour on those gals!

Will be watching closely as myself and 2 others here got most of the first and second raging heroes KSs (i'm iron empire though...but will most likely making the JBs too)

I've got my Jailbirds sat in a box (the original delivery box) somewhere. Really should break them out and paint them up too.

Assembly was a real ***** though
This.

Had the same problem when I was assembling them, also found they took a good few washes to get the releasing agent completely off too. I've had a couple in my escher gang and they blend in fine scale wise. Even found them easier to paint, as they limbs and build weren't quite so dainty.

Lovely gang to start with, looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Dat sun gun, though! Really nice weapon blend. In game terms they are expensive, but so much fun.

I too have a box of those ladies, ready for assembly. I gave up before even trying. Now that I went the Dark Eldar Wyches route, I might want to sell them. Anyone interested?

It took me a while, but the crew is finally all painted up!

The leader and heavies:

The gangers and juves. As you can see, the facepaint is a sign of gang membership and something the juves will have to earn the hard way. ;)

I'm quite pleased with how the gang turned out. Now to get working on a board before the Neomunda release hits...

Edit: I've also been thinking about what kid of a gang I want to start with. In the end, I coulnd't resist having a mighty sun gun - that blast template is just too tempting, and it'd be a crime to use that model as a standard plasma gun. Taking both heavy stubber and HPG does mean I'll have to start with only one juve, but I can hopefully recruit a second one after my first few games.

Gang leader, Scrama - Plasma pistol, sword - 165

Heavy, 'Sunburn' Katarina - Heavy plasma gun - 300

Heavy, Hild - Heavy stubber - 180

Ganger, Amanda - Autopistol, sword - 80

Ganger, Tasha - Shotgun - 70

Ganger, Linlin - Lasgun - 75

Ganger, Fylka - Lasgun - 75

Juve, Rat - Autopistol - 40

Total 985 creds.

Nice use of alternative Models and very nice Paintjob!
I especially like the idea of the face paint and the way it came out!

lovely facepaint! they look quality!

Beautiful! I love the bold choice of skull facepaint, really makes them stand out as somethign different.

Never really been a fan of the Raging Hardons figures but with a lick of paint these look really good, I might have another look at their minis now that they have produced more sculpts.

The face paint looks great on these, any plans on expanding the gang??

I know what you mean by Raging Hardons, some of their sculpts are downright embarrassing. Luckily the Jailbirds aren't among the worst offenders, even if the tops get unnecessarily skimpy at times.

I still have two extra lasgunners I've yet to paint, but beyond those, I don't think I'll add to the gang at least for a while. I've been eyeing Mantic's range for making a possible scavvy gang, but I'll probably wait for more info on new necro before jumping the gun on that one. These are the boxes I've had my eye on, in particular:

I have just seen the 'Not Sisters of Battle' sculpts Raging Heroes have done and I must admit I actually like them, they don't have that 'designed by a horny schoolboy' vibe that I get from some of their stuff.

The Mantic stuff your eyeing up has some good sculpts as well, if you do go down that path eventually be sure to let me know when you have done some minis.

I am also not a fan of the models (the rubber legged leader in particular) but you have done a damn fine job painting them. Love the face paint - I never would have tried that!

i think the face paint takes them from cheesecake to "shit, they're gonna kill us."

And there are "worse" (more blatant?) figure companies out there. there's an australian one in the alt minis thread that has an entire IG-type army of topless women.

I drew up a few concepts for some scavvy conversions I'm planning on making once my order arrives.

The boss, 'Papa' Grigori. Not yet sold on the Veer-myn head, I'll have to see if it looks less comical in model form.

And a counts-as long legs dogtaur mutant:

Now I'll just have to figure out how to make the scalies look impressive enough next to the 3rd gen troopers, who are quite bulky for a bunch of malnourished sump-dwellers. And how to turn some of those high-tech rifles into convincing-looking blunderbusses...

OMG! Dogtaur! What a great idea for a scav. :D
It’s seems kinda obvious now, but I never would have thought of that, why do great ideas always do that.
Maybe your leader could be the doctor splicing all these animal mutants together with the unwilling victims.
Nice sketch’s by the way. (y)
