Hive Primus volumes

What I really would like to see is how a massive hive would look in our world! But sadly I have no photoshop/3d-skills. Do anybody know if it's been done?

Yeah, I saw that one - looks very cool!

But I was thinking about actually making 3D-artwork of a Hive structure, and then photoshopping it into an actual image - like an airplane photograph or something. Preferably with something landmarky for comparison.

Yeah, I've not seen anything like that and I lack the skills to do it. I'd enjoy seeing something like that. Or maybe it would be really dull. Hives are supposed to be miles high. Hive Primus is like 10 mi high with a 30 mi base (yeah, the pictures don't look like that's right). A quick Google search reveals that the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in the UAE. It only stands 2,722' which is over half a mile, but that is still only like 6% of the height of Hive Primus. So perhaps it would be really easy. Drop a cone on a picture of any city as an aerial shot and you've got it. Add one black pixel and call it a plane and there's that too. I don't know if I'm exaggerating, but that seems right.

I doubt any of us here would actually live in the spire. more like on the shore of the Sump. No vertigo down there, but the spiders are mongo!

Apologies for the threadomancy!

I'm been very intrigued by how Hive Cities work, I've been tempted for a while now to try to build something along the lines of a 1:25,000 or 1:50,000 scaled version of a hive city, very much on the original artwork of the Palatine.

Here some links that have been very interesting for me, and might also be inspiring for you guys:

1) Ecopolis - Philip Sibbering's (who used to do some GW artwork, but also built his own interpretation of 40k) musings on hive worlds.
2) Dragon Lord's blog - Dragon Lord, over at the Anargo Sector Project, is trying to build/design his own hive city, this blog contains some of his thoughts on the subject.
3) Structure of Imperial hive cities - names says it all I think? (discussion)
4) Invictonburg: a hive world - our own musings on an example hive world (discussion)
