N18 House of Blades (General discussion)

Glad that my 2-3 lass-gunnners arent considered a faux pas.

Can't lie that I'm a little jealous that people already have the book in there hand. If I'm lucky I can sometimes pick up my pre orders on the friday night.

My compliments on the document.

I disagree. While I like variety in my gang, 2-3 Lasgun girls is usually a solid foundation.

That's like saying don't take a discounted grenade launcher as a goliath (my goliath gang has one) or discounted shotguns as orlock etc.

But then again I realise that house weapon list discounts are a marmite issue for the Necromunda community.

I agree. Never even created any plastic lasgunner, just stuck with my three metal ones. The problem is a lot of players can't see past the dirt cheap lasgun and so end up with an Escher guard squad.

Maybe I'm being a little glass half empty but is that comment about converting your own models on ominous precursor to there being no released models for the clan agents?

Someone on the Facebook page asked about the Khimerix and the response was there was no release date planned..

Damn, I was really holding my breath that there might be a Brute model coming because I have not been inspired to convert my own yet. Any news on FW Water Guild models in the book?

For Goliath there was no House Griem release or any more hive scum released for the Narco Lords alliance, just a slave guild entourage and a brute.

If I were a betting man I would say that at best Escher and the other gangs will get from Forge World a single “large” model (like a brute or pet) and a group of 3-4 models (like a guild alliance or Upper House entourage).

If in Eschers case they end up releasing some new resin champions then they might even skip one of the above options in lieu of the champion models.

I am torn on the new fighter weapon restrictions. On the one hand, they are so much clearer than in the past, and create definable niches for different fighter types. On the other hand, they don't seem to make sense logically, the fighter can buy this gun from the house list, but this one needs to buy it from the trading post. But then again, these are gangs. Gangs have traditions, rites of passage, and rituals, so perhaps these rules are not only game balance (ha!), but the societal pressures of hive gang life on display.

"Oh my gawd, did you see Becky? A bolt pistol, really?! She's just a prospect, that's so scandalous!"

Ok, no longer torn. :)

I like that some weapons are for the higer ranking members, but dilike that some members can buy and use weapons from TP that others have on thier list, seems a bit off, to me

As far as I can see, there are 3 types. 1) Hard restriction. For example a juve can't use special weapon. Like it or not, this is a long tradition in GW based on fluff and balance. 2) soft restriction. The fighter can't get some rare item automatically, but with a little effort it can be done. 3) Failed bullshit restrictions. Hotshot Las pack not listed on death maiden's page? It is common at the trading post. These types of restriction serves better as assembly instructions for the plastic kits than game rules. Ref enforcers are messed up bad with nonsensical restrictions like this.

No, the restriction is mentioned twice (redundant). By default, all hangers-on in the book are limited to Escher only, but they also individually state the same info, being limited to Escher only. Noticed the Goliath book had the same wording. Haven't seen all the new Hangers-on yet, but Shivver and Apprentice Clan Chymist are Escher only.

The Ulanti court advisor and the mirror mask are very interesting, both from a game and modelling point of view !

But of course they won't release a proper model... I guess its "sales projections" are not good enough compared to the ugly plastic zombie girls on which every instateen is already drooling on.

And no, don't count me on to buy a 105€ kit for one dull conversion...

I'll find a proxy for these ones. Bad decision, bad business.

Perhaps they're trying to future proof for further copy paste of rules...
Though that's possibly being too generous.

Big fan of the Shivver.

1) Psychic Bike-chick
2) Can be called Alice to be Alice in Chains
3) Also means that Alice (Shivver) can summon the Bounty Hunter Alice Shivver. When this happens I will use the same model with a fake mustache stuck on.

And as a fringe benefit the rules actually seem pretty good too!

The Ulanti Noble Alliance has some key differences from most other alliances:
  • No Group Activations (similar to Greim).
  • No Overseer.
  • The Courtier is originally labeled “Leader” but only have Leading By Example (6”) equivalent to a Champion (similar to Greim).
  • Mirror Mask does not have a fighter type (does not have Bodyguard, Indentured Fighter etc.).

Poor Death-maiden must pay 45 for master-crafted stiletto sword, while old champs and leader have it discounted to 40.
