N18 House of Blades (General discussion)

Not sure if anyone else has pointed it out, but the Displacer Field explicitly works when the wearer is hit now as opposed to when normal saves would happen. Seems like that's how field armour was supposed to work all along?

I dont mind the whips. For the beast handler i quite like them. But! they need some special rule or be handed out for free (5cred ok).Thee cred value is... for a str.2 weapon. GW cred calculation by simply adding up special rules etc., make some weapon way 2 cheap and other 2 expensive.

Thing with CGC and Goliath melee, is its utter overkill, literally nothing in Necromunda needs the amount of dice CGC or Stimmers can potentially throw at them to put down - its almost like the 40k writers were on the job and thought they'd be fighting whole squads at once.

I agree they're stronger on paper then a Death Maiden, theirs a cap to how killy a model needs to be to ensure a kill on the charge, Escher are good enough at melee for what they need to do, and in Necromunda its "whoever charges first wins" for melee specialists

The Escher House favours table has a majority of its rewards only lasting a ‘campaign week’ which seems a bit raw compared to the permanent rewards on the Goliath/Vanilla table.

After reading most of the HOB book (not the chem-alchemy) I am a little bit disappointed. I liked the Goliath book better. They did not address long-standing problems like the overpriced chemthrower but instead streamlined their profile(cool) to be more like other gangs. I did like it more when each gang had their own personality. And for a melee specialist gang they did not get help to improve this aspect beside from the Death Maidens. The Maidens are ok, but I don't like their fluff and miniatures that much. The gang as a whole will have problems to compete and persist against melee specialists like Ogryn Slaves, CGC or the improved Goliaths.
And I don't understand what they did with Juves und Wyld Runners. In the Goliath book they made both type of Juves ok, it was the first time I liked Juves in the new Necromunda and it was the first time I considered using them.
But the Wyld Runners cost almost as much as a Gang Sister and they have worse stats. Using the bow with different ammunition is costly and the bow isn't really good. The long range modifier and short range kills this weapon. I would always take a Gang Sister instead.
The whip is one of the worst weapons I have seen in this game. Why would I pay 15 credits to buy this weapon instead of just using the fists? You get -1 to hit in direct cc. I just don't understand it. I played a lot of Cawdor and versatile is not that good. The new pets are ok but hard to use I think.
The Little Sister is just a worse old Juve.

Then there are the finesse skills. There are some good ones, yes. But I don't understand both "Hit and Run" and "Lightning Reflexes". Does the enemy I retreat from get the chance to use reaction attacks as normally or not? If yes these skills seem really subpar if not they seem very good.
And whats the use of "Somersault"?

So yes I am disappointed. I hope the other gang books will be better.

Plus whips can be used versatile-y whilst your phelynx run in for combat. Better then str2 would be nice though...

I noticed that needle pistols are now +2 to hit, which would be a very nice buff if true.
Although given the bolter has the wrong ammo value (that has to be a typo, surely) and the powerknife has the poweraxe's profile, it sheds doubt on whether or not that's intentional.

I have to agree that, compared to Goliaths, the new Escher stuff seems underwhelming in a 'competitive' standpoint. The chem alchemy is cool but niche, expensive, and very temporary. Getting a Chymist takes the edge off the high prices, but you're still paying every game rather than once-off. Plus it's a lot of gang rating bloat anyway.

Can you swing between scenery Indiana Jones style with whips? I can’t remember if the shock had that ability or not.

If not, why not? That would have been useful. Same for allowing you to climb one level up from where you are without needing a ladder.

Anyone here have the iBooks version of HoB? If so, can you see the text on pages 18-25? It is missing for me (though all images etc. are there):

Repeated attempts to delete and then download anew haven’t solved the issue (which occurs on both my iPhone and iPad). Have already contacted GW customer service via email, but as they can take a while to respond I am wondering whether more people have this issue.

Can a death maiden charge a stimmer, an ogryn, or a butcher and put them out of action statistically reliably?

Some of the mistakes (or ninja errata) I stumbled upon in the Weapon Reference Chart

  • Throwing Knives are listed with a Strength of S, even though they have the Toxin trait
  • The Wyld Bow has a Damage of - (this mistake was also present in their teaser article)
  • None of the new Escher weapon lists have access to a Power Axe. On page 112 they have artwork of an Escher specific Power Axe. In the Weapon Reference Chart the stats for a Power Knife are identical to the stats of earlier iterations of the Power Axe (and thus nothing like the earlier iterations of the Power Knife)
  • There are no listed stats for the Augmetic Fist, even though it is the default weapon of the ‘Jotunn’ H-Grade Servitor Ogryn
  • The Venom Claw does not have the Melee trait (this mistake was also present in their teaser article), although the Venom Claw belonging to the special character Necrana does have the Melee trait
  • The Two-Handed Axe and Two-Handed Hammer no longer have a -1 to hit
