How are the Orks?

I’m going to take the plunge into some BFG in the new year and am looking to pick a starting fleet. My favourite race are the Orks so I’m naturally tempted to go all in those… however, playing them in 2nd Ed 40k and 8th Ed WHFB is leaving me cautious; I really can’t handle another system with them being absolutely rubbish and every game being a shoeing, two games like that is enough!

How do the Orks play in this, can they hold their own? I’m not getting thrown into a competitive meta by any stretch, it will probably just be me and my mate mucking around, but my beloved greenskins are so crap they can’t even hold their own in our mega casual games.

A back up choice will be a Chaos Fleet which seems to be a solid choice.

They’re fun to play. I’ve not played them enough to tell if they’re actually any good though.

Orks are a fun fleet. Prepare for low leadership, missed special orders, random gunnery strength letting you down when you need it most, free All Ahead Full, glorious ramming attacks and savage boarding attempts.
