Hypothetical Question: Selling of kitbashed minis

If you are doing fancy pistols, maybe a fancy autopistol or bolt variant would be good to go with those. Something that says "I'm Up-hive" or an heirloom weapon for a Guard officer.

Those look very good!

I have a feeling a lot who try this route often go off to create bits services, or their own miniature ranges anyway which they can scale up as they own those parts and don’t have to track them down.

Possibly... nothing worse than finding the perfect bit for a kitbash then discovering that it is from some long out-of-print kit and either costs a small fortune or else is just simply not to be found anywhere.

If I were to sell kitbashes (and I've considered it, because I like building but not painting and am going to run out of space for unpainted minis), I'd view it as a way to recoup a portion of my hobby costs rather than pricing out components for a profit. Just trying to offload the stuff I'm making anyway.

Another concern is that I'd be ending up selling factions with 3d printed parts, and reselling 3d prints is iffy. But they're converted from the original files, so it's not just printing and selling on. I recently reworked my Blood Bowl fishmen team to have a bit more sporting gear, and now I have the old fishmen team just lying around. What should I do with them, I onno. Give them away, sell them IRL if one of my league members is interested. Leave them in a drawer forever, ooh that sounds good

It's the price of the components that's the problem. As I've said, the pistols my Adventuring Noble is using come from the Neyam Shai Murad figure which is currently selling for $50US on eBay. I believe I got it for about $18US but that was over a year ago. Anyways.... if I were to sell my Adventuring Noble, simply to recoup the cost of just the pistols, I would have to charge what I paid for the figure... $18US. Not going to happen.

You'd have to check with the creators of the original STL files. Some have no issue with people selling prints of their files. Others require you to sign a license or agreement. And some are adamant about "for personal use only". Shapeways and Etsy are full of people selling 3d Prints of other people's STL files
