Iandanger's Hive Project

Haha well here's some on my city board (about 4K points) from before an apoc game a few weeks back

Nice work, and models. Sadly they're nearly 3x the price here in the UK which makes them a little pricey. I might have a go at scratch building some though as yours look so good.

@iandanger ... could I be cheeky and ask you for the rough measurements of the container and dumpster? I'm not going out to the pub this weekend as I'm saving myself for Super Bowl Sunday / Monday so figured I'd have a (kit)bash at this.

That walkway looks like it could o with being structurally reinforced.

Cool thread BTW. Lots of good ideas flying around.

Whew, 4 and a half months no update, mostly because I have been working on a sizable Tzeentch army. Still, I have the same urge to do off topic projects, and thus was born my latest Necromunda gang. I have the gang I built earlier, a ton of arbites, and a bunch of GS cult, so I figured I could do with another gang, that way I can try to get some peeps at the local store to try the game.

This crew is based on house Goliath, the blood warrior models being perfect for it, and is fleshed out with some support from my massive pile of cultist bodies. My plan is to use the CCW cultists as Juves, not sure if I'll use the autoguns ones long term or just replace them with more blood Warriors, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.

They're going to be called the vault boys for fairly obvious reasons

Well, its been ages since I've posted, and go figure, I've changed a lot on my board. Specifically, I've decided to ditch the tablescape, which while a lovely board for wargaming, had rather wide streets and a tendency to make terrain impossible to place due to textured elements. I replaced it with a Starship Interior FAT Mat, one I bought last year as the basis for a zone mortalis project. I'm still planning to get the ZM walls done, but this will enable me to get more out of the existing board.

Since the release of the Sector Mechanicus terrain, I've wanted to add an industrial area to my board. The GW servohauler crane seems to naturally pair with my landing pad, so my plan is to have that kit positioned above the pad on a platform, and then a depot of shipping crates nearby with some improvised crate hovels and a taco stand. The industrial terrain will have the gantry off the landing pad, and will run the long length of the board to the arbites station. I really enjoy the idea of a VIP getting off an aquila lander and having a long walk up and down catwalks and past industrial equipment just to get to the arbites station. This was an element of the Eisenhorn: Xenos game (admittedly not the best game ever, but I enjoyed it) that I thought would be fun to capture on the tabletop. Would be a good mission starter, escort the VIP sorta thing.

Next to the arbites station, I've constructed a Sumpin' Donuts for the enforcers, and added a bit of ruins of an administratum building as well as the honored imperium statues. This is a fairly open area, as I figured the arbites would want their precinct to be difficult to approach, so I placed defense lines in the area to make it feel defensible. This is potentially too much open space, so as I continue developing my hive I may alter it, but it's conveniently all on one side of the board, so I will still have a very dense 4x4 when all is said and done.

I added some terrain from Promethium Forge that uses cans and has the same dimensions as the Sector Mechanicus terrain, it was a solid investment and gives my home made Sector Mechanicus stuff a good termination point. Eventually, I'd like to replace all my foamcore and can terrain with the real GW stuff, but that's a long ways off. My next few purchases are likely to be: promethium pipes, haemotrope reactors, servohaulers, maybe another set of crates and the new objective set. I also intend to get some MDF shipping crates to add to my depot and incorporate into some scenery. I have a set of vending machines coming from Miniature Scenery, and have my eye on a few other pieces of scatter scenery.

Coming this month, I have a Promethium Forge Kickstarter order. This kit should give me the ability to add a very dense set of bulkheads on the opposite side of the table from the industrial stuff. I may have the bulkheads extend right up to the industrial terrain, across the main road, the idea I want to go for here is that the bulkheads are the end of a residential area, and that this is essentially part of the commute for workers. Currently, the space that this set will occupy is taken up by some old styrofoam terrain I'm planning to get rid of. I also built a bar and flop house that will go in the corner and goes up 3 levels, I need to get some kegs to go up top with the still.

I'm planning to build at least one more named building, though probably only a portion of it. I want a Gymnasium where my goliath gang work out. Since they're vault-tec themed, I'm going to give the gym's signs pip boy branding etc.

The painting process is coming along slowly, I have been using diluted craft paint through my airbrush to do much of the painting so far, which has been surprisingly effective (and boy is it more affordable than vallejo for large projects).

All and all, my board should be close to done in time for the new Necromunda!

Thanks, yeah the sporadic updates are a symptom of constantly getting bogged down in different projects, last fall my Tzeentch daemons took over, and I've spent all this year on AoS projects. conveniently, my current projects should clear up just in time for Necromunda': release

Oh man, time for an update! My hive has really come together over the last year, particularly since the release of the Imperial Knight Renegade game and subsequent bargain prices on sector mechanicus kits from the game (also that killzone).

But, before I get to my main board, I want to take a moment to introduce a new battlefield: The Underhive. Still very much a WIP (and I haven’t bought the badlands tiles yet), this board is such a fantastic addition to my collection. Equally functional as a maze of tunnels or the halls of a massive space ship, I love how portable it is.

It has become one of my favorite spots for photographing my minis, even though I’m not done painting yet:

Anyhow, I also have some shots of the big board to show off:

Almost all of my home made Sector mechanicus studs has been replaced, and I’ve switched to a 4x4 so the table takes up less room (the las 2 ft are a leaf)

Not everything is on the table currently, my hive guys and enforcer precinct have rotated out (I’m planning to make a new and improved location once the rest of the board is painted) and most of my home made stuff has moved on to new owners. The LCD screen in my enforcer precinct broke, so I need to modify that to fit a smartphone.

I can't believe I missed this thread all last year. some fantastic stuff here! those boards look like they'd be a blast to play on.
